Actor Jang Dong-kun, Other Celebrities to Perform in Los Angeles

Celebrities such as top star Jang Dong-kun, film director Kang Jae-kyu, and
singers Kang Ta, MC Mong, Epik High and Suh Ji-young, will publicize South
Korean pop culture in the United States.
Popular South Korean celebrities will attend an event entitled "Glimpse of Korea"
to be held at Universal Studios in Los Angeles in March. They will include South
Korea's leading entertainers and director: Jang, who has made his name known at
the Berlin International Film Festival as a hallyu star, actress Kim Yoon-jin, who
has made inroads into the American entertainment industry by acting in the
American TV drama "Lost," film director Kang Jae-kyu, who directed the
film "Taegukgi: Brotherhood of War," and top South Korean singers and groups
such as Kang Ta, Suh Ji-young, Maya, MC Mong, Epik High and Jewelry.
"Glimpse of Korea" was first held in October of last year. It is an event aimed at
introducing the hallyu boom to American audiences.
During the five-day event, singers Kang Ta and Suh Ji-young will give a
performance on Mar. 17. The South Korean actors and filmmakers will meet their
American counterparts during the event.
The upcoming event will likely also be attended by Sandra Oh, the winner of the
Best Supporting Actress Award at the 63rd Golden Globe Awards, and world-
renowned film star Jackie Chan.
"So as not to make it end up as a mere event, we're going to arrange meetings
between South Korean and American filmmakers and actors and publicize Korean
culture through performances by singers and exhibitions," said an official from the
event's organizing committee.

[bActor Jang Dong-kun Meets 1,000 Fans from 14 Countries

Hallyu star Jang Dong-kun has met about 1,000 fans from 14 countries who have
arrived in the country to celebrate his birthday.
To celebrate his birthday, Jang held a fan meeting with about 1,000 fans from 14
regions, including Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong, at the COEX Auditorium
in Samseong-dong, Seoul on the afternoon of Feb. 26. The fan meeting was a
multinational event that is held every year to celebrate Jang's birthday, which falls
on Mar. 7. This year's event was held a week before his birthday because he will
leave for Japan on Mar. 5 to promote his new film "Typhoon."
At the fan meeting presided over by film actor Kong Hyung-jin, movie star Joo Jin-
mo--a friend of Jang's--helped create a lively atmosphere by cracking witty jokes.
Performances were also given by singers KCM, Park Hyo-shin, and A.I.
Jang then took the stage, singing "Fly Me to the Moon" to the accompaniment of a
jazz band. He continued to sing "Though I'm Brokenhearted" (originally sung by
the group "Fly to the Sky"), the theme song of the TV drama "Fashion 70." He also
sang Boy George's "Karma Cameleon."
Unlike his previous custom of chiefly singing ballad songs for his fans, Jang sang
quick-tempo songs this time to show off a new image. The 1,000 fans who packed
the hall gave a standing ovation with cheers just like at a singer's concert, closing
that day's event which lasted two and a half hours.
The members of Jang's fan club entitled "Adonis International" who came from
various countries around the world donated 50,000 Hong Kong dollars to the
UNICEF in Jang's name. His Korean fans presented a notebook computer with
photo files of themselves to their idol Jang, who frequently travels around the
world. His Japanese fans gave him travel coupons so that he can obtain a good
rest in Japan.
