Synopsis
“39” is about three friends who met in their second year of high school and are now on the verge of turning 40. The drama will tell the beautiful and emotional everyday stories of three 39-year-old woman who encounter unforeseen circumstances.
Cha Mi Jo (Son Ye Jin) is the head dermatologist of a clinic in Gangnam. She is a warm character who grew up in a wealthy environment with a caring family and everything she could wish for.
Jung Chan Young (Jeon Mi Do) dreamed of becoming an actress but ended up becoming an acting teacher instead. Although her way of speaking may seem blunt and harsh, the sincerity in her words makes her a character impossible to hate.
Jang Joo Hee (Kim Ji Hyun) is a department store cosmetics manager. Due to her timid personality, she has yet to really experience a romantic relationship.

Cha Mi Jo
Son Ye Jin plays Cha Mi Jo, the head dermatologist of a clinic in Gangnam. She is a successful woman who opened a hospital in the middle of Gangnam. She grew up in a loving home with a warm family, and she is a wise and caring woman who dislikes injustice and knows how to speak her mind. Although she doesn’t know much about classical music, she visits concert halls just to listen to Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto. One of her hobbies is golf, and she’s so passionate about it that she plans to study it abroad. Cha Mi Jo is a career woman who is both trendy and chic.
In the drama, Son Ye Jin will portray the life of a 39-year-old woman whose life is filled with joy, sadness, anger, and remorse. Her character will face new encounters, challenges, and separations.
Jung Chan Young
Jeon Mi Do takes on the role of Jung Chan Young, who dreamed of becoming an actress but ended up becoming an acting teacher instead. She is someone who speaks her opinions ruthlessly, and she tends to make her friends Cha Mi Jo (Son Ye Jin) and Jang Joo Hee (Kim Ji Hyun) angry with her honest, fiery words. She seems unapproachable due to her flaming charisma, but she’s more sincere than anyone.
Jung Chan Young have both charismatic and playful sides. When she’s a teacher, she whips out her professional side, but in front of her friends, she’s a free-spirited ball of energy. Her short hairstyle and sophisticated outfits also hint what kind of person she is. She has sparkling eyes and a bright smile that conveys her genuine charm.
Jang Joo Hee
Kim Ji Hyun’s character Jang Joo Hee is a department store cosmetics manager. Out of the three friends, she’s the one with the softest and purest heart. Compared to Cha Mi Jo and Jung Chan Young, she has a timid nature, but sometimes, she unexpectedly shows bold actions.
In particular, Jang Joo Hee’s biggest charm is her lovely personality and random eccentricity. She’s a lovable character, but the truth is, she’s never been in a proper relationship before.
Kim Sun Woo
Yeon Woo Jin takes the role of Kim Sun Woo, a 39-year-old dermatologist who works at the same hospital as Cha Mi Jo. He makes many women’s hearts flutter with his handsome looks and sweet personality. As the son of a former member of the National Assembly, he grew up with many opportunities. Yet, he’s humble and knows how to enjoy small happiness. He is the prime example of a perfect man who is good-looking and has a thoughtful heart, unpretentious honest, and recklessness.
Kim Sun Woo, who returned to Korea after becoming a doctor in the United States, coincidentally encounters Cha Mi Jo and becomes strongly attracted to her. He is a pure soul who only has eyes for her, and as a result, expectations are high for their warm romance.
Kim Jin Seok
Lee Moo Saeng will turn into Kim Jin Seok, the CEO of Champ Entertainment. He is a gentle and caring man who has a calm and serious personality. He was once called the “Son of Cheongdam” because of his wealthy family environment, and he achieved success as the chairman of the leading entertainment agency in Korea.
In particular, when he goes to meet Cha Mi Jo at an alumni association, he will fall in love at first sight with Jung Chan Young. The two characters will get entangled up in a relationship that eventually blossoms into romance.
Park Hyun Joon
Lee Tae Hwan will act as Park Hyun Joon, the owner and chef of the fusion Chinese restaurant Chinatown. Coincidentally enough, the restaurant is located in Jang Joo Hee’s neighborhood. Park Hyun Joon was offered to be a chef at a hotel, but due to his dreams to cook his own dishes, he rejected the offer and opened a small restaurant instead.
