Fallen tree breaks up breakfast

IPOH: Patrons enjoying their breakfast at a food stall in Selama, about 112km from here, had a rude shock when a tree fell on the makeshift structure and caused it to collapse on them.
Selama fire station chief Mohamad Fadzeli Che Husin said on Wednesday that the 7.30am incident at Kampung Tapah Sungai Bayor had left 14 people, including a child and a woman, injured.
"The victims were rescued by nearby villagers before being rushed in an ambulances to the Selama Hospital.
"Most of them only sustained scratches.
"However, two elderly men, in their 70s, were seriously injured after being pinned under the rubble," he added that the two suffered head, facial injuries and had been transferred to the Taiping Hospital for further treatment.
According to Mohamad Fadzeli, the stall was a popular place amongst villagers.
"The stall was completely destroyed as it was made up of only wooden planks and zinc sheets," he said, adding that firemen managed to clear the rubble at about 8.45am.
Mohamad Fadzeli said the cause of the incident was still being investigated.
"The weather was perfectly fine at the time of the incident although there had been a thunderstorm the night before.
"We believe the tree had already rotted prior to this and the heavy rain and strong winds had merely loosened its roots," he said.
