PETALING JAYA: Penangite Dasha Logan's single Cleverly has shot up to the No. 2 spot in the UK Soul charts, jumping two spots from last week. "I feel a little stunned really. I have never been on any musical chart before, so just being on it is amazing," the 26-year-old told The Star Online on Monday. Dasha is the daughter of the late Alleycats vocalist Loganathan Arumugam who passed away from lung cancer in 2007, and cited him as one of her biggest musical inspirations.
The singer-songwriter who is of Indian-Eurasian descent said that she dedicated everything in her life especially her musical career to her father. "I have some really big shoes to fill and it was tough trying to meet everyone’s expectations," she added.
Dasha’s musical career began eight years ago when she started singing at restaurants and weddings in Penang. She has since come a long way with a new song in the works and an album in the foreseeable future with British label AreaBoy. The songstress said that the lyrics for Cleverly was inspired after her friend who found out that her boyfriend was married, and described it as a "dangerous song". "It's about cheating and telling guys that we are not stupid and we know when something is wrong," she explained. Dasha attributed her success to her family and friends, adding that she has been "really lucky". "I am so thankful to have such and amazing team and great friends and family that helped me get to where I am today," she said. |
