Total SA CEO Christophe de Margerie was killed in an airplane accident at Moscow's Vnukovo airport, airport spokeswoman Elena Krylova said on October 21, 2014.

PARIS, Oct 21 — The CEO of French oil company Total, Christophe de Margerie has died after a private jet crashed at a Moscow airport, Russian media reported today citing aviation and law enforcement sources.

“There was one passenger registered on the plane, French citizen Christophe de Margerie. The three crew members were also French citizens. They all died,” the TASS news agency cited an aviation source as saying.

TASS reported that the plane “according to a preliminary version, crashed into a snow plough”.

The Interfax news agency cited a police source as saying that one of the dead was a top executive at Total, naming de Margerie, 63.

A Falcon-50 plane crashed at Vnukovo airport at 11:58pm yesterday Moscow time, apparently on takeoff, the emergencies ministry said in a statement.

“There are casualties.”

A spokesman for the emergencies ministry told AFP that he could not give information on the casualties.

There was no immediate response from Total in France.

MOSCOW: Susulan nahas pesawat yang berlanggar dengan sebuah jentolak salji ketika berlepas dari Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Vnukovo, Moscow.

Pasukan penyiasat Rusia memaklumkan pemandu jentolak berkenaan berada dalam keadaan mabuk ketika insiden.

Laporan awal turut mengesahkan Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif syarikat minyak TOTAL, Christophe De Margerie dan tiga anak kapal yang lain maut dalam nahas itu.

Insiden pada jam 11.57 malam waktu Moscow itu menyaksikan pesawat peribadi milik De Margerie bertembung dengan sebuah mesin jentolak salji ketika melakukan pelepasan di lapangan terbang berkenaan.

Jarak penglihatan ketika itu adalah sejauh 350 meter.

TOTAL merupakan syarikat minyak ketiga terbesar dunia sementara mendiang De Margerie dilantik sebagai Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif sejak 2007.

Oct 21 (Reuters) - The driver of a snow plough involved in the plane crash that killed the chief executive of French oil major Total denies he is guilty and relatives say he never drinks, his lawyer said on Tuesday.

Russia's Investigative Committee said Vladimir Martynenko was in a condition of alcoholic intoxication when the snow plough he was driving was in a collision with the private jet carrying Christophe de Margerie.

"He (Martynenko) is in shock. He considers himself guiltless as he followed all the instructions from the dispatcher," lawyer Alexander Karabanov told Reuters.

He said his client would appeal against what the lawyer called the official version that Martynenko "was in a condition of alcoholic intoxication".

"According to his relatives, he was sober in the morning and he doesn't drink at all due to chronic heart disease. Relatives are afraid that the airport authorities are just trying to make him ultimately responsible to avoid billions in lawsuits which are for sure to follow," Karabanov said.
