Infinite whosaid, “We have confidence that we can be first place between idols whodo choreography in a synchronized, grouped up way like we do,” seems tohave succeeded in capturing eyes of music fans with the ‘scorpiondance’.
-The scorpion dance has become a craze. It seems like the time to practice must be long.
“Besidesthe 5~6 hours of sleep, we practiced for the rest of the time. Afterdebuting in June of last year, we haven’t rested for a day. Because wedidn’t receive that much interest last year, we decided to give our allfor the scorpion dance once we received the ‘BTD’ choreography. Becauseit’s a movement where we support our whole body with just our hipstrength and bend down and up, we needed to make muscles, and we did alot of exercises to increase our flexibility.”
- There were controversies of it being fake.
“Afterseeing the music video, we received a lot of suspicions saying ‘theirbodies are attached with wires’, ‘isn’t the screen edited’. We reallydid it completely with our own bodies. We practiced enough to die, sohow great is it that it became a controversy. It seems that a lot ofpeople copied it similarly and created a UCC. We’re proud because it’sproof that the scorpion dance has become popular.”
-The members having similar looks to other celebrities has become a hot topic lately.
“Woohyunhears that he looks similar to Hyunbin senior often. So he wore thesparkly training suit that a master craftsman made in ‘Secret Garden’and uploaded the picture, but the fans’ reactions were really heated.At a glance, he does look similar. Sungyeol hears that he looks similarto Yoo Ahin-sshi often. And since Sungyeol is actress, Yoon Yoosun’snephew, it also became a hot topic at first.”
-Infinite seems to have had many complications before debuting.
“Everyonefailed auditions of an amount that cannot be counted. Hoya dropped outof school at the age of 17 and created the dream of debuting as asinger, while being active as a dancer. When we met for the first timeas a team we said, ‘We all must have failed all the auditions to becomeInfinite. It must have been destiny to meet like this’ and we practicedreally hard to become the best group.”
- Isn’t living as a group hard?
“Welive in a house with 3 rooms in Mangwon-dong, Seoul. Because we’ve beenliving with each other for over a year, rules have been created so it’snot really uncomfortable. Every week we rotate doing laundry andcleaning with each other, and for the cooking and washing dishes, weeach do it separately. Leader Sunggyu hyung is in charge of thenagging. If the laundry’s pushed off or the house is messy, Sunggyuhyung does not fail to continue his nagging. Although we live with justmales, it’s cleaner than you would think.”
-What’s a goal you created when ‘BTD’ was created?
“Plans of debuting in Japan have been set up. We want to get first place in Korea before we go to Japan.”
-What’s a unique point that only Infinite has?
“Likethe team name of ‘being infinite’, our goal is to become a group withinfinite possibilities that can digest any style of music or dance. Wethink we’re becoming a group that fits well with our team name. We havethe confidence to not lose against any other team, with our groupdance.”

What about the ‘scorpion dance’ that is recently become a hot topic?
Forthe scorpion dance, we applied a dance from the 80’s and made it. Weshow this choreography on stage; it’s where you make a circle. For thisdance, you need to comfortably place your stomach on the floor andafter picking up your leg like a scorpion, you need to use your body’sstrength to pick yourself up. It’s not as hard as you may think, and ifyou just practice it for a couple of days, you can copy it easily.
What do you think about the shooting up popularity?
Whiledoing promotions for ‘BTD’, I think it became a chance to show our owncolors. Although we can’t conclude that our popularity increased a lotbecause we gained many more fans, we hope that there will be goodresults after working a bit more harder.

The 7 boys with different personalities and ages,met in one place with music and became a jewel that shines like a7-colored rainbow. With the magnae that’s still in high school, andthe oldest hyung in his early 20’s, you can feel the fresh aura of aboy from infinite (Sunggyu, Dongwoo, Woohyun, Sungyeol, Hoya, L,Sungjong). Different from the charismatic sides that they show onstage, they have a unique cheerfulness that comes from those in their20’s.
Infinite gave out witty replies with their cheerfulness and playfulness. However, when we started talking about music, even their eyes were filled with seriousness.With their choreography, that seems like they even matched the anglesof their fingers, Infinite captured the attention of the public.Besides dancing, they also have a natural gift in writing lyrics. Dongwooand Hoya personally did all the rap making for all their songs. Hoyaalso participated in directing the choreography, creating the idea forInfinite’s representative ‘scorpion dance’.

You’re having a Japanese debut in april, are you preparing well?
Wehave books and are learning Japanese gradually, but we were alreadystudying Japanese because we felt like it was basic to know it. We arepreparing to show Infinite’s own color in Japan’s stage that we can’tshow here, and for them to agree with us [our music].

Infinite, who gained fans’ attention with their scorpion dance, is a quite charming group made up of seven mischievous boys.
Many personalities were combined to create Infinite, and justlike how a gujeolpan [T/N: A Korean dish with nine different foods]captures the attention of the consumer with its various coloredingredients, the members all have different charms to them.
In the members, there are talkative boys and mischievous pranksters, cute ones and ones that show off a true masculinity. Inthe recent interview with TV Daily, Infinite said that they could passoff the hardest times because of how they lived together.
While starting a dorm life together since they were trainees, they put constant effort towards a successful debut. At that time, it was uncertain that they would debut, so all the trainees were tired of waiting for an indefinite ending.
Themembers brought up past memories where they depended and ran towardtheir dreams even though there was no promise with their waiting.
Woohyunreminisced a time when they lived in the practice room from earlymorning to late night. He looked back on it and said, “Because wethought that it was an obvious step towards our dreams, everyone workedreally hard. Since practice repeated everyday, we didn’t even know how the days were passing by.”
To this, Sungjong talked about a fun episode that happened during his trainee days. Heshowed an awkward smile and said, “We fought a lot during our traineedays. Since everyone was tired, we argued many times over minor thingslike doing the laundry or cleaning. The toilet was clogged one day andwe fought over the fact that no one unclogged it. When we thought aboutit later, it was embarrassing and funny to us.”
Dongwoo helped with this by adding on, “Since we have a lot of members, wedecided to divide the labor, but everyone ended up not doing it. Wewould be tired from practice and it would be really late once we cameto the dorms, so I think it couldn’t be helped. So in the end, I think we just gave up on cleaning and doing the laundry.”
The oldest, Sunggyu, showed Infinite’s strong friendship by saying, “Aswe argued during our trainee days, we learned a lot about thetendencies of each other. We became more attached with each otherthrough that, and it became possible for the members to stick togethertighter. Since we stayed together from the beginning of our trainee days till debut, we have feelings like a comradeship.”
Atfirst, 12 people had created the dream of being a singer during theirtrainee days, but through their sweat and efforts, only 7 peopleresulted in becoming Infinite.
They showed their strong will with saying, “Wethink that Infinite hasn’t had its real success yet. Before debuting,we promised to each other that until we’re content with our results, wewon’t look at anything else besides music promotions.”
Infinite, who was created with intense willpower, have infinite possibilities like their name.
AsInfinite released their second mini album, Evolution, they arereceiving feverish support from fans with their matured music andscorpion dance performance.
With their title song, ‘BTD(Before The Dawn)’, they show a performance with their dark charismaand bring out a masculinity that’s different from other groups. Fanscan’t hide their hearts that flutter even at one hand movement, andsent out feverish love.
The relationship between Infinite andtheir fans is famous for being really close. They have a next-door-oppatype of friendly feel, and they enthusiastically respond to the lovethat fans give to them. Through the interview with TV Daily, they picked Woohyun as the member who does fan service the best.Sungyeol complimented Woohyun’s direct fan service until his mouth randry. He said, “It’s even to the point where Woohyun’s called ‘NamTrainer’. He picks the fans up and down [T/N: teases them], and he’s sogood at fan service that even I get shocked watching.”
As they started talking about fan service, the Infinite members revealed episodes about their fans.
Dongwoo,who capture the attention of fans with his red hair, revealed that hehad a lot of troubles due to his hair. Dongwoo revealed the hurt he hadbecause of his bright hair color by saying, “At the time I had redhair, we were doing a fansigning and maybe this fan found my hairinteresting, but she pulled it out and took it.”
And they also said that Sungyeol gets scolded by his fans. Woohyun revealed Sungyeol’s humiliation with saying, “BecauseSungyeol has the choding/elementary schooler character, the fans thinkof him as the most comfortable. Maybe it’s due to this, but aftermonitoring Sungyeol’s shows, the fans scold him.”
Becauseof Sungyeol’s elementary schooler image, even the fans’ gifts are thatof an elementary schooler. It’s to the point where fans send Sungyeoloil pastels for elementary schoolers [something like this], coloredpencils, and as they give 500 pieces of colored paper, they suggest himto do origami.”
To this, Sungyeol only secured his imagewith elementary schooler thinking by saying, “There are a lot ofelementary schooler supplies in our office storage that the fans sent.I think I won’t have to worry about school supplies later on when Ihave a son.”
The fans of Infinite are clever and unique. Therewas a time where in worry that their oppas would get hurt in a largecrowd, the fans acted like guards and another time when a fan gave hersignature instead to Infinite during a fan signing.
