Moss Loses Two Jobs After Cocaine Reports

Burberry canceled a deal with supermodel Kate Moss and Chanel decided not to renew her contract Wednesday, as police said they were investigating allegations that she recently used cocaine.

Confirmation of the investigation came a day after Hennes & Mauritz, Europe's largest fashion retailer, canceled plans to use the 31-year-old model in an upcoming ad campaign.

Moss has made no public comment. No one answered the phone Wednesday evening at the Storm modeling agency in London, which represents her.

Chanel, the French fashion house, said Wednesday it wouldn't renew Moss' contract when it expires next month.

Julie Le Blevec, spokeswoman for Chanel perfumes, said the decision wasn't based on media reports.

Moss has been the face of Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle perfume since 2002. Le Blevec said the company would continue using ads that feature her until the contract expires.

Burberry said it had been in talks with Moss' representatives and that they had "mutually agreed that it is inappropriate to go ahead" with the project this autumn.

"Kate has always been a fantastic model and highly professional for Burberry," the company said. "We are saddened by her current circumstances and hope she overcomes her problems as soon as possible. We wish Kate all the best."

The decision by H&M Tuesday to drop its campaign came after Moss acknowledged last week that British tabloid reports of her recent cocaine use were true.

London's police generally investigate drug dealers rather than users, but that policy is "adaptable to the impact of events," said Ian Blair, commissioner of the Metropolitan Police.

Blair told reporters he wouldn't comment directly, but added: "We have to look at the impact of this kind of behavior on impressionable young people and if there is evidence, something should be done about it.

"I can remember being asked a question about a previous individual who was given a caution. I think that was a wrong decision."

Kate Moss Back With Burberry
Jun 27, 3:46 PM EST

The Associated Press

LONDON -- Kate Moss is back at Burberry. The fashion house scrapped a campaign featuring the supermodel last year following tabloid accusations that she had used drugs.

Moss, 32, appears in a white lace trench coat at the center of Burberry's main autumn-winter 2006-2007 ad, one in a series launched Monday to celebrate the company's 150th anniversary.

The black-and-white ads, shot against London cityscapes by Mario Testino, feature British cultural icons and their offspring, including 1960s model Penelope Tree and actor Max Irons, son of Jeremy Irons.

Burberry distanced itself from Moss in September, after The Daily Mirror published pictures of her allegedly using cocaine. The company dropped plans for her to appear in its fall 2005 campaign, and posters featuring Moss were removed from its flagship store.

Earlier this month, British prosecutors announced that Moss would not be charged over the tabloid claims, saying there was insufficient evidence.

Although Moss also lost contracts with Chanel, H&M and Gloria Vanderbilt after the photos were published, her career seems to have suffered no lasting damage.

After apologizing to "all the people I have let down" and visiting a rehab clinic in Arizona, she signed new modeling contracts and appeared on several magazine covers.

Burberry stressed in November that it had not severed ties with Moss.

July 7, 2006 -- KATE Moss might want to get photographed snorting cocaine more often. The sniffly supermodel's earning power has soared since pictures of her Hoovering disco dust made headlines around the world. Despite the initial backlash - which included cheapie fashion superstore H&M dropping her from its ad campaign - she raked in cash with new deals with Burberry, Calvin Klein, Rimmel, Nikon, Roberto Cavalli and Virgin Mobile. The catwalk icon, 32, who earned about $7 million a year before the cocaine storm, will make about $18 million this year.

Kate Moss Back In Vanity Fair
Fri, 07/28/2006 - 3:47pm

Less than a year after the coke fiasco and then the Vanity Fair cover comeback, Kate lands another VF cover for the upcoming September fashion issue. Supposedly the images are insane and we can't wait to see that cover. In the meantime, check her out sporting her (I must get me some of those) Tom Ford sunglasses while picking up some lunch and her copy of Hello magazine.

Kate Moss Has Total Body Makeover

What does a supermodel do when years of hard partying begin to take their toll on the body? Head on off to the spa for a complete body and spirit overhaul. So that's just what Kate Moss did.

A source revealed to Britain's Grazia magazine: "Kate knows she hasn't been looking her best. A girl like her can get away with a few flaws because she's still head and shoulders above most other mortals. But she's a supermodel so it's her business to keep herself on top form."
A friend said: "Kate has turned a corner. She is thinking about herself, about the way she looks and about who she is as a model and style icon.

"She says to remain on top at her age and in her job she has to be 100 per cent, and by the time she left she was really happy and looking amazing."

Kate Moss Tops Vanity Fair's Best-Dressed
Kate Moss, in Long Gloves and Boots, on Cover of Vanity Fair, and Top of Best-Dressed List

NEW YORK Jul 31, 2006 (AP)? Kate Moss, wearing long white gloves, leather boots and a white fur hat, graces the cover of Vanity Fair's September issue.

The 32-year-old supermodel also appears in a photo spread inside the magazine, on newsstands Aug. 8. In two photos, she sports an androgynous look wearing a black hat, jacket and tie inspired by Marlene Dietrich. In another, she channels Dietrich in the 1934 movie "The Scarlet Empress" by posing in a white gown draped around her waist.

Moss has the top spot among the rich and famous featured in the magazine's international best-dressed list for 2006.

Other sharp dressers include George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, Renee Zellweger, Gwen Stefani, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, CNN newsman Anderson Cooper, filmmaker Sofia Coppola, Prince William and Jordan's Queen Rania.

The sexy Vanity Fair cover is the latest move in Moss' career comeback. She entered a drug rehab clinic in Arizona last year after pictures of her allegedly using cocaine were published in a British tabloid. In June, prosecutors said there was insufficient evidence to charge Moss.

Although Moss lost contracts with Chanel, H&M and Gloria Vanderbilt after the photos were published, she has signed new modeling contracts and appeared on several magazine covers, including the December issue of Vanity Fair.

She has maintained her relationship with Burberry, and can be seen in the company's new ad campaign.
