EXCLUSIVE - It happened on Friday night, July 14,three days into the Second Lebanon War. An Iranian missile fired by Hizbullah hit an Israeli Navy gunship off the shores of Beirut. Four soldiers were killed in the biggest blow to the IDF's morale during the 34-day conflict. An inquiry into the incident later revealed a line of failures.

Up until now, the IDF has prevented the publication of detailed photographs of the incident. Now, 15-months later, exclusive images from the deck of the ship have been obtained by Ynet. For the first time, the hole that was left near the helipad on the advanced gunship, and the damage the missile caused, can be seen.



The photos show that the fire that broke out on the Hanit naval ship, left much of it charred, including the command bridge. The deck of the ship also suffered great damage and the heavy metal was bent and burnt. The hole that the missile left in the soldiers' sleeping quarters was especially deep and reached the bottom of the ship, causing much harm and casualties.

Despite the major disaster, which took four lives, the images show that the missile fired by Hizbullah could have caused far worse damage if it had hit the center of the ship or one of the ship's central systems



The pictures, published here for the first time, were taken three days after the attack once the ship had arrived at Ashdod port for repairs.

The IDF preferred not to show images of the damaged ship, and up until now have only been publishing photos of the ship at sea on its way to Ashdod, where the signs of the damage caused could not be spotted. The decision not to publish the pictures was made out of considerations that viewing such images could be too difficult and make the incident, which was considered one of the most serious incidents during the war, even worse



Last week, Navy Commander David Ben-Ba'ashat ended his term after three years in the position. Ben-Ba'ashat chose not to stay in his post for a fourth year, in the shadow of the Hanit ship incident.

The ship was repaired over a period of many months and was recently put back into operation. The crewmen have undergone workshops with professionals, including psychologists, in order to be able to deal with the incident that caught the military and navy off guard.

Following the incident, changes were made in the army's decision making procedures regarding intelligence evaluations of weapons held by the enemy, to ensure that such an tragedy never happens again.

bukannye sebab FFBNW......Israel terlalu memandang rendah terhadap Hezbullah......kapal ni mempunyai sistem pertahanan misil yang baik.....untuk anti missile depa ada BARAK missile system....

tahap kesiagaan yang diambil pada ketika itu adalah terlalu rendah......they even switch off their surface search radar and Anti Missile defense system.....israel claim sebab ade aircraft die operating on that area.....

tiada informasi perisikan yang tepat adalah penyebab utama kepada event ini.....mereka tidak mejangkakan yang hezbullah mempunyai sistem misil anti kapal tersebut...

Sistem BARAK dah dikelirukan oleh 2 misil hezbollah, yang pertama terbang lebih kurang 30m untuk decoy. bila BARAK sibuk nak tangkis misil pertama misil kedua dilancar tapi altitud berbeza (lebih kurang 7m). misil pertama dikelirukan olh BARAK dan dipesong kearah lain tapi tak sempat nak pesongkan misil kedua. dengar serita misil pertama dihalakan oleh BARAK ke kapal lain dan kapal tu tenggelam.

beb, ini satu pekerjaan yang sukar kalau tak tahu keluaran yang mana satu, sebab aku kena selak sehelai sehelai (selak kain pompuan yang suka rela takpe ), aku ada banyak majalah ni. lagi satu aku tak scan sembarangan....tak adil untuk majalah Tempur, perajurit atau yang sewaktu dengan nyer, itu pasal aku scan bab negara ASEAN atau yang bersangkut paut dengan nyer.....

Phalanx CIWS tak blh tembak semua sudut, blh tembak ikut tepi je, sbb tu syria tembak ikut bunyikan

they dont even switch on the Barak Missile defense system, they put it at rest.....macammane depa bleh confusekan dan tangkis bende tuh.....

Phalanx CIWS system also in standby mode......again die claim because for friendly aircraft safety.....kalau die on this CIWS and put it on AUTO mode , for sure the threat can be handled well....

3 misil dilancarkan oleh hezbullah....1 kene hanit , 1 overshoot dan terkena pada cambodian merchant ship dan 1 lagi meletup sejurus dilancarkan........

for ur info general readiness state of weapon system are:

1.Rest
2.Standby
3.Fully operational ready to rock n roll

fakta ini diperkuatkan dengan majlis kesyukuran yang dieorg ni sambut dlm kapal dimane hampir 80% krew berada di mess instead of di tempat duty memasing....which is a wise action , where a lot of people save by this event.....kalau sume dah berpesta for sure combat readiness dieorg ni dithp yang rendah pade mase tuh......

This C802 missile is not as sophisticated tech as the latest Harpoon block D.....it is only a reverse engineering of harpoon block A.....initial harpoon.....

off course a lot of speculations out there....u r free to comment what u think its true.... .....but why must depend on Perajurit only.....

those CIWS can be fired into any direction provided the ship manouvered....they even can fired vertically up to 70 degree angle for countering ARM......no problem for the ciws to counter sea skimming missile.....they were designed to counter this type of threat initially.....

once missile is inbound u dont hv time to differentiate wether it is friendly or foe.......a missile is a threat wether it is friendly fire or from hostile.....

those IFF system are not designed for detecting missile......they r designed for identifying aircrafts and vessels..... they r only secondary radar, not the primary radar.....
