Tolong la jangan tunjuk biadap sangat ye. Tolong jangan kata muke Captain Zaharie sesuatu ke, senget ke, ikut sedap mulot korang. Dia dah takde. Dia tak dapat nak kutuk korang balik. Jadi manusia apekah anda ini bila buat perangai setan camni?
Karpal Singh pon korang kutuk. Dia dah takde, paham? Kalo dah sakit hati sangat kat dia tu, awat korang tak gi sambung blajar jadi lawyer, pehtu hantam balik sama dia kat court?? Ptuihhh!!!
Kalau la flight ni kecundang malam semalam, entah hape la korang kutuk pasai muke pilot yang sorang ni pulak.
I woke up this morning and found the news in FB. Panic because i thought it was a big thing, but eventually it looks like its just a main gear tyre burst / thread delamination / rapid deflation incident. I am unclear how many tyres, or which side it was. Not that i can do much about it.
Unclear if its the Pilot or the Tower who knew first. Definitely Runway debris inspection found out or confirmed it, be it as a matter of course ( standard periodical check ) or specifically just for the incident.
Eventually the Pilot knew,a discussion was held with OCC ( MH Ops Control Center ) and a decision to RTB ( Return To Base ) was made. Nothing unusual there.
With the aircraft under full control, all system intact, and at least 4 hours of fuel on board, the decision to burn excess fuel was made. This will reduce risk of fire in case things go tits up, as well as allow the plane to land at a lower speed because of lighter weight, reducing landing roll distance and hence heat build up at the affected area. Narrow body aircraft like the B737-800 has no fuel dumping facility, not like the big birds so the best way is to fly at lower altitude and burn excess fuel at a high rate of consumption.
In the meantime the AES ( Airport Emergency Services ) prepared themselves to receive the aircraft for the precautionary landing.
Standard procedure prior to landing is for the Pilot to make a low pass over the Runway without landing so the Tower or related Engineering personnel can use binoculars and view the condition of the tyre or landing gear and brief the pilot of any damage so he can anticipate the reaction of the aircraft on touchdown.
The Pilot did what he was paid to do, landed safely and the passengers were safe and the Plane suffered minimal damage.
Things got a bit exciting with MH370 hovering in everyone's mind, and the term "Air Turn Back" being used triggered excitement in many people.
Then all hell broke loose and it became a Media Circus.
#Is such an incident rare? YES. But its not unknown. It has happened many times to other airplanes, mostly the smaller ones that goes up and down more often than the big widebody ones.
#Is it dangerous? Not really. Apart from one sad case ( Eastern Airlines L1011) I am not aware of lives lost in a prepared Emergency landing due to undercarriage problems . Google or youtube it. Planes landing with compromised landing gear incidents can be viewed everywhere.
#Are Pilots taught to land with landing gear in a compromised situation? Yes, there are technics and advisories in the Aircraft Flight Manual that covers this procedure.
#Aftermath :
Very interested to know what caused the tyre(s) to deflate and deliminate. Was it FOD on runway, and if so from what?
How many times have the tyres been retreaded ( celup ) or is it new?
If its tyre failure, then perhaps it came from a 'bad' batch so need to check on tyres from the same batch.
Whatever the reason, I am certain MH boys know what they are doing, and are doing it diligently.........
I hope this answers all the PMs I received.
TQ
NOTE: Tyre Failure on Take-Off is indeed a dangerous thing. If chunks of the tyre makes its way into the wheel well during thread/carcass separation things can get really ugly as there are all sorts of hydraulic tubing in there, and may manifest in eventual control problem.
This tyre issue really needs solid investigation work to ensure it will never happen again.
The Concorde crash was caused by tyre burst due to FOD damage on take-off roll. All were killed.
Here's the B737-800 in its unfortunate Low Cost paintwork
capt tahu ada problem ngan rh gear.. sbb ada bunyi dan gegaran..
lantas mengarahkan pemeriksaan runaway.. maka terbukti ada cebisan tyre
indikasi dlm kokpit berkenaan rh gear pulak bertukar merah sbb sensor dah rosak akibat letupan tayar..
terpaksa buat terbang rendah dkt klia utk memastikan ldg gear btol2 dah down n locked..
dumped fuel sampai 700kgs then buat emergency ldg..
