[Borneo] ASEAN Snapshot 20/03/2022

Total Cases crossed 26.78 million at 7:00 pm with more than 217,000 New Cases reported since our last update as the Omicron variant continues to sweep across Southeast Asia.
Vietnam reported 150,618 New Cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, down from 163,174. Active Cases in the ASEAN member state have climbed to 3.75 million, up from 3.46 million previously. The health authorities reported 77 New Deaths in the past 24 hours, up from 57, resulting in Total Deaths in Vietnam climbing to 41,817.

Thailand logged 24,996 New Cases of COVID-19 and 84 New Deaths during the previous 24 hours. Only 31 of the New Cases were found in arrivals from other countries. The remainder were all transmissions inside Thailand. People aged 60 or older comprised 82% of the deaths reported on Sunday. On Saturday, 22,292 Recoveries were discharged from hospitals.  

Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 22,341 New Cases in the past 24 hours, down from 24,241 previously. Total Cases logged in the country now stand at more than 3.97 million with 3.65 million Total Recoveries to date. Malaysia recorded 85 New Deaths, up from 59 previously, resulting in Total Deaths climbing to 34,329.

Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) logged 10,244 New Cases in the past 24 hours, down from 10,594. 3 New Deaths were reported, down from 9 previously, resulting in Total Deaths climbing to 1,194. Active Cases in the island state have dipped to 36,500+ from 37,500+.

Indonesia reported 5,922 New Cases of COVID-19 today, down from 7,951 yesterday. The ASEAN member state has now logged over 5.58 million Total Recoveries while Active Cases in the Republic have dipped to 219,500+ from 229,500+. Total Deaths stand at 153,738 in the populous archipelago with 139 New Deaths, down from 188 yesterday.

Brunei reported 1,294 New Cases, down from 1,465 yesterday, taking Total Cases in the country to 124,500+ with 13,000+ Active Cases, down from 14,000+ yesterday. Total Deaths in Brunei have climbed to 89 with 2 New Deaths reported.

Lao reported 1,001 New Cases, down from 1,317 yesterday, taking Total Cases logged since the beginning of the pandemic to 152,500+. Lao reported no New Deaths, resulting in Total Deaths remaining at 645. Active Cases remain below the 1,500-mark while Total Recoveries now stand at 148,500+.

The Philippines recorded 525 New Cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, down from 545 previously. Active Cases remain below the 45,500-mark while 24 New Deaths were reported, down from 119. Total Recoveries now stand at more than 3.57 million while Total Deaths have climbed to 58,023.

Myanmar reported 379 New Cases in the past 24 hours, down from 540 previously. Active Cases have dipped below the 26,000-mark while Total Recoveries now stand at 563,500+. Health officials in the junta-run state reported 3 New Deaths, up from 2, resulting in Total Deaths rising to 19,423.

Health officials in Cambodia have reported 97 New Cases of COVID-19, down from 117 yesterday, pushing Total Cases logged in the kingdom to almost 135,000. Active Cases have dipped below the 1,000-mark. Total Deaths in the country stand at 3,051 with 1 New Death reported.

Total Deaths across Southeast Asia now stand at more than 336,500 with 418 New Deaths recorded today. On a positive note, over 21.82 million Total Recoveries have been reported across all 10 ASEAN member states to date.
