LONDON – Penduduk sebuah bandar di Britain hidup dalam keadaan tidak tenteram akibat diganggu oleh bunyi berdengung misteri tanpa henti, lapor akhbar Daily Star semalam.

Bunyi aneh itu membelenggu penduduk bandar Immingham, North East Lincolnshire di England sejak beberapa tahun lalu.

Penduduk yang boleh mendengar bunyi itu di dalam rumah mereka menyifatkannya sebagai satu bentuk penyiksaan sehingga ada yang terjaga pada waktu malam.

Seorang penduduk, Chloe Eccles mahu meninggalkan bandar itu selepas enam tahun tinggal di sana disebabkan bunyi tersebut.

“Setelah beberapa tahun, saya terus mendengarnya dan saya pikir saya gila tetapi orang lain juga boleh mendengarnya.

“Dalam beberapa bulan kebelakangan ini, bunyi itu menjadi sangat kuat dan berterusan,” katanya.

Majlis North East Lincolnshire sudah berusaha mencari punca bunyi tersebut namun gagal mengesannya.

From the plausible to the imaginative, people have been reacting to the Grimsby Live story about a mysterious humming sound keeping Immingham residents awake at night.

With wind farms and cargo ships being among the more credible suggestions for the “humming drone” in the early hours, people have also come up with other inventive ideas about the source. A good number have blamed aliens or UFOs; more than one person thought it was caused by hot tubs.

Many Immingham residents have said they are “fed up” with losing sleep because of the irritating sound. People in Killingholme and Stallingborough also reported hearing the noise on a regular basis, as did residents of Caistor.

Christine Neilson, 74, a great-grandmother living in Ancholme Avenue, Immingham, said she had been unable to sleep, with the noise loud enough to penetrate her double-glazing. “It is just a humming drone, it's very uncomfortable on the ears and it does keep you awake.

“If you do manage to nod off, you wake up again and there it is again, humming away. It seems to come from the east.”


Another Immingham resident, Chloe Eccles, said she first started hearing the noise six years ago in 2018 when she lived in Keelby, but that "no-one" would believe her about it at the time. Some offered suggestions it was wind turbines, underground electrics and pipes.

Now, Grimsby Live readers have responded with their own experiences of the noise – and their theories. Nicki said: “I used to hear it when we lived in Healing, thought I was going mad”.


Lynn said: “I used to hear it, I'm in Cleethorpes near the football ground.” Lauren responded: “I also hear this every morning in Grimsby!” and Dawn said: “I hear it most nights and I'm in Immingham.”

Samantha said: “There is a hum. It is audible in Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Immingham. No idea on cause but it's been going on for many years.” Sandra said: “I hear this type of noise in Scunthorpe” and Drew commented: “Could hear this Wednesday night. Whatever it is it’s annoying.”

Lynn M said: “We used to get constant night time humming - discovered it was lorries with freezer containers turned on, on the docks.” Linda suggested: “Cargo ships coming up the Humber heading for Imm Dock?” and Andrew said: “Wind turbines, I think.”
