INTER 2 W.BREMEN 0: ADRIANO HITS BRACE
Tuesday, 14 September 2004 23:00:06
MILAN - Inter got their Uefa Champions League campaign off to the perfect start with a convincing 2-0 win over reigning Bundesliga champions Werder Bremen. Brazilian striker Adriano Leite Ribeiro continued his explosive start to the season with both goals at the San Siro.

Roberto Mancini's men were given a huge advantage after just five minutes of their opening Group G match when French defender Valerien Ismael was shown a straight red card for a foul from behind on Adriano in the German box. But Christian Vieri's spot kick was too central and Reinke saved with his legs.

With extra space in midfield the Nerazzurri proceeded to dominate, Veron in his holding role serving Stankovic, Emre and van der Meyde, who in turn sparkled as they served the front pair.

An Inter goal was only a matter of time. And when it did come, it was from another penalty after Adriano was fouled just inside the box by Baumann in the 32nd minute. The Brazilian took the spot kick himself and sent Reinke the wrong way to notch his fifth goal of the 2004/05 season.

van der Meyde, Vieri and Stankovic all forced the Werder goalkeeper into close-range saves as Inter pushed for a second goal. But there's no stopping the Emperor. With a minute of normal time remaining Adriano received from Veron, switched to his favoured left foot then drove a blistering low shot into the bottom left-hand corner.

The Nerazzurri are back in action at the Meazza this Saturday evening with the Serie A Week 2 match against newly-promoted Palermo.

INTER 2-0 WERDER BREMEN (HT: 1-0)

Scorers: Adriano (pen) 34', 89'

INTER: 1 Toldo, 2 Cordoba, 4 J. Zanetti (13 Z

Menurut Mancio:

Is Nicolas Burdisso ready to play?
"Burdisso is well, and he was also quite well on Saturday. But we have to assess his condition today. I don't think he will be ready for tomorrow, it's more likely he will be ready for Saturday evening."

Bak kata Giacinto Facchetti:

"There are moments in the careers of great goalscorers when the ball won't go in. It has happened to everyone and it's happening to Vieri, but these are moments that pass. He's doing better and better, he has to continue like this."

Inter Monitoring Casillas
9/14/2004 3:40:00 PM
According to the latest transfer speculations, Inter are keen on landing Real Madrid's Iker Casillas as replacement for the aging Francesco Toldo.
The nerazzurri seem to be following Casillas' situation, who has stated that he has not received any renewal offer from Real Madrid as of yet.

"No one from Real has spoken to me yet about the contract renewal. If a President wishes that one of his players remains, I think that he must tell him so, otherwise he will reply the contrary. But this happens in all of the teams in the world. My first option is Real Madrid. My desire is to play and have fun. Then anything can happen; in the meantime I'm calm.

Nak beli Casillas pulak?Carini nak campak mana nanti?:hmm:

Oba Oba Back In The Frame
9/17/2004 2:29:00 PM
Inter will have a new weapon at their disposal this weekend, as Oba Oba Martins is ready to make his comeback following the ligament injury he suffered last July.
Inter boss Mancini is expected to bring the young striker on the bench when Palermo face the Milan side in the San Siro on Saturday.

If Martins returns quickly to top form, he could turn out to be the perfect attacking partner for the world抯 most on-form striker of the moment, Adriano.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He's back.So,watch out.

Serie A Preview: Inter-Palermo
9/17/2004 3:46:00 PM
Inter will hope to score their first win in Serie A this season on Saturday night at the San Siro against Palermo.

Background

After a draw last week at Chievo, Inter will look to kick-start their dreams of the scudetto with a victory this weekend in front of their tifosi. In midweek they got a moral boosting victory at home to Werder Bremen and will feel they can gain momentum from this and use their big weapons to dispose Palermo.

All of those weapons are not necessarily firing for Inter. Christian Vieri is currently in poor form and is struggling to find the net, even from the penalty spot. In comparison his strike partner Adriano is on completely top form and can抰 stop scoring with already three in the Nerazzuri抯 first two competitive games. Mancini will need to consider his striker partnership as this weekend抯 match is crucial and if Vieri continues his slump, it could be costly.

The good news for Inter is that the midfield of Veron-Davids and Stankovic looks like they could be key in giving Inter a more attacking and fluent side than what we have been expecting of Inter recently, the only worry comes in the defence since the sale of Cannavaro.

Palermo should prove to be no wimps at the San Siro. Already use to their hostile crowd in Sicily, the Palermo players should be fired up for the occasion. Last week they got a narrow home victory against Siena and will look to give Inter a shock at the San Siro. The man who scored the goal, Luca Toni, is also in fine form. With many a goal in Serie B last season he has already scored for Italy within the last month.

Palermo, one of the newly promoted sides, will be hoping that luck and the result goes their way in order to really make their mark in Serie A. This Palermo side has the making to be a major team this year, with Barone and Corini in midfield, Luca Toni in attack supported by Zauli and players such as Grosso and Barzagli in defence, this team has an enormous amount of potential. The Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini is currently one of the moneymen of Serie A and showed this summer he is no stranger to splashing the cash. This will give us the first signs of what they can achieve in Serie A.

Team News

Inter

Inter have pretty much a full squad to choose from with the exception of Coco and Cristiano Zanetti. It will be a tough choice for Mancini but he is expected to choose Van Der Meyde on the right wing.

Palermo

Palermo will be expected to keep more of the same team that faced Siena.

Probable Line-Ups

Inter: (4-4-2) Toldo; J. Zanetti, Cordoba, Materazzi, Favalli; Van Der Meyde, Veron, Davids, Stankovic; Adriano, Vieri (Recoba)

Palermo: (4-2-3-1) Guardalben; Zaccardo, Biava, Barzagli, Grosso; Corini, Barone; Santana, Zauli, Gasbarroni; Toni

Players To Watch

Juan Sebastian Veron: He could be the key man in midfield this season for Inter as he is expected to unlock the doors of the defence. If he can show signs of previous Serie A seasons and not ones in the Premier League, he may well be able to be the key to opening those doors.

Luca Toni: Netting 30 times in Serie B last season is not enough for the lanky striker. His international call up and goal on his debut has given him an even bigger appetite for goals. Scoring last weekend, he will hope to do more of the same in the San Siro.

INTER HELD BY PALERMO
Saturday, 18 September 2004 22:51:08
MILAN - There was no love lost at the Giuseppe Meazza on Saturday evening as Inter and Palermo played out a tempestuous 1-1 draw in Week 2 of the Serie A TIM. The Sicilians snatched a point on their return to Milan after a forty-year absence, Luca Toni neutralising Adriano's forty-first top-flight goal in seventy-eight games.

Palermo had two goals disallowed in a first half characterised by foul play on the eighth FIFA Fair Play day. Four yellow cards were shown in the opening period - three to Inter players, and Marco Materazzi required medical attention to a facial cut after being elbowed in the face by Luca Toni on the half hour.

Inter took the lead seconds after the restart when Adriano outjumped two Palermo defenders to power a header part Guardalben. It was the Brazilian's seventh in five competitive matches this season and his twentieth in an Inter shirt.

The visitors equalised midway through the second half. Zauli dribbled Stankovic and Pasquale then crossed for Toni to slide home his one hundredth career goal. Inter survived a scare minutes later when Toldo pushed a Santana effort onto the right-hand post.

With just over half an hour to play Obafemi Martins replaced Cruz to make his first appearance of the season. The Nigerian was immediately in the thick of the action with two goal attempts in three minutes and a run on goal which resulted in Biava's sending-off. Taking advantage of the numerical superiority, Roberto Mancini threw on Vieri for van der Meyde. With the never-before-seen attacking trio of Vieri, Adriano and Martins, Inter pushed for a second goal in the closing stages. Adriano went closest, his spectacular long-range shot rattling the Palermo crossbar.

Inter are back in Serie A action this Wednesday evening with a match away to Atalanta, the first of four midweek championship matches this season.

INTER 1-1 PALERMO (HT: 0-0)

Scorers: Adriano 46', Toni 67'

INTER: 1 Toldo, 2 Cordoba, 7 van der Meyde (32 Vieri 83'), 8 Davids (5 Emre 87'), 9 Cruz (30 Martins 72') , 10 Adriano, 13 Z
