The Global Passport Power Rank 2016 has revealed which nations have the most powerful passports, guess where Malaysia is ranked? Many of us take our right to own a Malaysian passport for granted and treat its value casually but according to a new ranking, a Malaysian passport is among the most valuable worldwide. The global passport index ranks our travel documents by measuring the number of countries that can be visited without applying for a visa and a Malaysian passport allows its holder to enter 151 countries without a visa, making our passport among the eighth most powerful worldwide as well as the fourth most valuable in Asia. Besides Singapore, many of our Southeast Asian neighbours didn't fare as well with Indonesia coming in at 70th spot with their passport allowing them to enter 56 countries without a visa while Vietnam and Cambodia is even lower, at 75th spot.
According to World Economic Forum report, the 2016 ranking puts Germany and Sweden at the top of the passport league. Holders of German and Swedish passports can visit 158 countries without the need to apply for a visa. The report highlights how passports of poorer, weaker and wartorn countries often have less power and leverage when it comes to visa-free access to other countries, so our Malaysian passport's impressive ranking speaks volumes. The map below shows the global distribution of the most and least powerful passports.
