From mock wedding to the real one

PETALING JAYA: Ten years ago, childhood sweethearts Lokman Mansor and Alyn Fazira Adzelan were persuaded by their friends to stage a mock wedding.

Ten years later, they are married in real life.

The childhood sweethearts also achieved social media fame after taking part in the #10yearschallenge.

A social media post – of a photo of their make-believe wedding, taken 10 years ago at a dinner at the end of their school year, with a photo of their actual wedding on Friday, Jan 18 – has received more than 14,000 likes since it was posted by a friend on the day of their wedding.

Lokman and Alyn, who started dating each other in Form Two, said the make-believe wedding photo was taken in 2009 during a dinner organised by their school to mark the end of the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examinations.

The couple, both from Tanjung Karang, said they had known each other since they were in primary school.

“During the dinner, everyone asked us to pretend to have a wedding. It’s funny to think about it now.

“Alhamdulillah (praise be to Allah), we are now husband and wife,” said Lokman when contacted by mStar Online on Monday.

He and Alyn were inseparable throughout their primary and secondary school years.

“From Standard One until Form Five, we were always together.

“But we had to go through a long-distance relationship after our Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia exams as Alyn went to do her matriculation in Perlis and I went to study in Ungku Umar Polytechnique in Ipoh,” he said.

Recalling their relationship, he once got into trouble at school when a teacher found a love note which he accidentally left in a workbook.

“My teachers teased me for writing love notes while still in school,” he said.

Lokman and Alyn both went to Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu 9 and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dato’ Harun in Selangor.

The #10yearschallenge is a challenge that went viral on social media, requiring those who want to take part in the challenge to post a photo of them 10 years ago side-by-side with a photo of them this year.

Kan emosi nak menggatal nak kapel tu suma part of puberty juga. Akak ok je if stoden nak bercinta. Yang penting reti jaga diri dan tak menggeletis meleweh melekap 24 jam. Weol kat sekolah if nampak stodens bercinta uncontrollable, memang panggil mak pak jah.
