– MalaysiaGazette

Belford University
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to navigation Jump to search Belford University was an organization that offered online unaccredited degrees for "life experience". The organization maintained a post office box in Humble, Texas, but its certificates were mailed from the United Arab Emirates.[1] Along with many similar websites, it was owned by the Karachi-based company Axact, the main business of which, according to a New York Times investigation, is "to take the centuries-old scam of selling fake academic degrees and turn it into an Internet-era scheme on a global scale".[2] In July 2018, Shoaib Ahmed Sheikh, the CEO of Axact was arrested and sentenced to prison for 20 years for his role in perpetuating this scam.[3]
On August 31, 2012, Belford University was shut down and its alleged founder, Salem Kureshi, "ordered to pay $22.7 million in damages".[4] "The judgment established the truth of allegations that Belford High School and Belford University are fake schools that do not actually exist."[5] Court documents from McClusley v. Belford University revealed that Belford University was run by 30-year-old Salem Kureshi from his apartment in Karachi, Pakistan.[6][7] The court found that Kureshi "operates a sophisticated internet ripoff scheme through various websites, which falsely represent the existence of an accredited and legitimate high school, whose diplomas will be widely accepted by employers, professional associations, other schools, colleges and universities".[6] Kureshi has admitted that he created 44 online universities and more than 100 promotional websites. "With an inkjet printer, a Microsoft Word template, and a few cheap websites, Kureshi allegedly became an overnight millionaire."[8]

Mahfuz: I'm a kindergarten graduate, not a varsity grad
Tuesday, 12 Feb 2019
2:37 PM MYT
PETALING JAYA: Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Mahfuz Omar (pic) has dismissed as fake claims that he was a Belford University graduate.
“I am not a university graduate. I have never claimed to have studied at any university, what more a foreign university.
“I am shocked to hear that my name is also being dragged into the mud with false claims that I have a fake degree,” he added.
He said this when asked to comment on an e-poster circulating on social media claiming that he had obtained a political science degree from Belford University in 1992.
“I am shocked. This is utter nonsense. I am not a degree holder.
“I do not have to resort to lying about my academic credentials. In politics, what is important is capability and knowledge.
“I rose from the rank-and-file in politics. I learnt from experience, and I learn from those who are more experienced.
“And I am proud to say that I am a tadika (kindergarten) graduate. And I take pride in defending what is right. I dare voice out in the interest of the rakyat without fear or favour.
“When Kedah was under PAS control, I even criticised the state government for failing to address garbage disposal issues. I was with PAS then, and I dared to voice out,” said Mahfuz, who had quit PAS to join Parti Amanah Negara prior to the 14th General Election.
