Mula-mula tengok trailer MD pun aku dah rasa mcm dejavu. Mcm pernah tengok tapi tak tahu filem/tv apa. Siap google lagi tapi tak jugak dapat cari tajuk filem. Lepas ramai bagitahu Vanishing Act 1986, baru aku ingat. Memang aku pernah tengok filem VA ni. Then aku google lagi, rupa-rupanya ada lagi guna plot yg sama, One of My Wives is Missing 1976 dan Honeymoon with A Stranger 1969. By the way, tiga movie ni bagi kredit ye kepada idea asal iaitu based on 1960s stageplay Trap For a Single Man (French play: Piège pour un homme seul) by Robert Thomas.
Aku baru je lepas tengok yang lagi dua movies tu. To sum up, One of My Wives is Missing tu memang almost sama tp ending berbeza ckit dgn VA manakala yang Honeymoon tu ada lain sikit, bini cari laki instead. Overall memang idea yg sama.
Since aku tak tengok lagi, ramai cakap VA = MD v1. Aku wonder MD v2 plak mcm mana. Tapi aku takkan tengok kat wayang lah.

Vanishing Act pun bukan idea asal- source IMDB
In 1976 Jack Klugman, James Franciscus, and Elizabeth Ashley made a clever television mystery, ONE OF MY WIVES IS MISSING, which is about a weird extortion scheme by an impostor. It was remade (in my opinion slightly better) in 1986 Vanishing Act with Elliot Gould, Mike Farrell, and Margot Kidder in the lead roles. I say better because, while the supporting cast of ONE OF MY WIVES IS MISSING, was good, this remake had Fred Gwynne in a pivotal role as a somewhat shady clergyman - an ally of Kidder's in her scheme. There was also a nice bit by that underrated supporting actor Graham Jarvis (MARY HARTMAN, MARY HARTMAN) as a holistic doctor who gets dragged into the mystery. Finally the writer/producers in this were the creators of Lt. Columbo, William Link and Richard Levinson. They improved the script a bit, particularly with Gwynne's role.
The story is the same - Farrell is the newlywed husband who had an argument with his wife, and she left their cabin in high dudgeon. When he reports this to officer Elliot Gould, suddenly the door opens and Kidder comes in begging Farrell's forgiveness for the argument and her snit. But Farrell insists she is a fake. Gould, thinking he's been the victim of a joke, leaves disgusted. And then Kidder reveals her larcenous demands on Farrell unless he wishes to have serious problems with the law. Farrell, forced to go along with her demands, keeps looking for a chance to get Gould to come back and investigate a bit more. But when Gould reappears a "witness" shows up to support Kidder - a Catholic clergyman played by Gwynne. Of course once Gould leaves again, Farrell faces now two extortionists working some badger game on him.
Again the tension is maintained by a good cast and the improved dialog of the script. What is going on? Where is Farrell's wife, and what have Kidder and Gwynne done with her? Will Jarvis, who has stumbled into the mystery accidentally, help Farrell overcome these villains? And what is Gould up to...for he to begins acting oddly after awhile?
Again the ending catches the viewer by surprise (unless they saw the original television film). Certainly worth catching if it is shown again as one of the best television mystery films. |

Memanglah Vanishing Act bukan idea asal... dah berbuih dinyatakan sebelum ni...gosh. Tapi Vanishing Act terang2 tulis "based on the play by Robert Thomas". Diaorang gave credit to the original source. Dinyatakan dengan jelas karya asal siapa.
Taklah perasan bagus macam syafiq yusof fefeeling skrip hasil karya sendiri. Dah ciplak karya org lain sebijik sebijon, tak bagi kredit... seolah tu hasil karya dia sendiri. Tak ada etika & integrity... apatah lagi kredibiliti.

Sure akan kena puji melambung. Anyway...buat flim ni mcm roda. Ada untung ada rugi, ada yg puji ada yg keji.
But manusia akan ingat yg buruk. Kita tgk berapa lama dia nak buat comeback. Apa ASTRO kata, sbg co producer?

Wah instinct meols xpenah salah. Meols xpenah suka & x berminat nak tengok filem2 arahan Syafiq Yusof. Pada meols overrated sangat filem2 arahan dia. Cerita ALF/ALF 2 pun meols xsuka tgk.
Meols lebih rela habiskan duit tengok filem abg heols si Syamsul tu. Tapi Syamsul tu pn mcm kehilangan magis pengarahan. Filem heols yg meols rase best & xbosan tgk berulang kali cuma Khurafat & KL Gangster je. Munafik/Munafik 2/KL Gangster 2 pn meols xboleh hadam walau org kata best.
