Archaeologists have discovered the ancient mosaics in an ancient Greek city named Zeugma in Turkey. The incredibly well preserved mosaics date back to the 2nd century BC, but they’re still as beautiful as the first day. The site came to the attention of the international archaeological community when it was threatened by flooding, due to the construction of a nearby dam in southern Turkey in 2000. The excavations at Zeugma started only in 2007.

When archaeologists began excavating, they found three remarkably intact glass mosaics rich with color. The first mosaic depicts the nine Muses which represented the goddesses of the inspiration of literature, science and the arts. Another mosaic is depicted Oceanus and Tethys , with various fishes and sea creatures around them. The finds are estimated to be 2,200 years old.
