Varian Covid-19 Afrika Selatan Cenderung Kebal Vaksin Pfizer

IDX Channel - Varian virus corona yang ditemukan di Afrika Selatan disebut vaksin Covid-19 Pfizer / BioNTech sampai batas tertentu. Sebuah studi data di Israel menemukan kesimpulan tersebut, meskipun prevalensinya di negara itu rendah dan penelitian belum ditinjau oleh sejawat.

penelitian Universitas Tel Aviv dan penyedia layanan kesehatan terbesar Israel, Clalit,  mengatakan Varian Afrika Selatan, B.1.351, ditemukan sekitar 1% dari semua kasus Covid-19 dari semua orang yang
Di antara pasien yang sudah menerima dua dosis vaksin, tingkat prevalensi variannya delapan kali lebih tinggi daripada mereka yang tidak divaksinasi - 5,4% banding 0,7%.

Menurut para peneliti, hal ini menunjukkan bahwa vaksin tersebut kurang efektif terhadap varian Afrika Selatan, dibandingkan dengan virus corona asli dan varian yang pertama kali diidentifikasi di Inggris yang mencakup hampir semua kasus Covid-19 di Israel.“Kami menemukan tingkat yang lebih tinggi dari varian Afrika Selatan di antara orang yang divaksinasi dengan dosis kedua, dibandingkan dengan kelompok yang tidak divaksinasi. Ini berarti varian Afrika Selatan dapat, sampai batas tertentu, menembus perlindungan vaksin,” kata Adi Stern dari Universitas Tel Aviv.

Namun, para peneliti memperingatkan bahwa penelitian tersebut hanya memiliki ukuran sampel kecil orang yang terinfeksi varian Afrika Selatan dikarenakan kelangkaannya di Israel.

Mereka juga mengatakan bahwa penelitian tersebut bukan bermaksud untuk menyimpulkan keefektifan vaksin secara keseluruhan terhadap varian apa pun. Dikarenakan hanya melihat orang yang sudah dites positif Covid-19, bukan pada tingkat infeksi secara keseluruhan.

Perusahaan menyatakan bahwa pada 1 April vaksin mereka sekitar 91% efektif untuk mencegah Covid-19, mengutip data uji coba terbaru yang menyertakan peserta yang diinokulasi hingga enam bulan.

Terkait varian Afrika Selatan, mereka mengatakan bahwa di antara 800 relawan studi di Afrika Selatan, dimana saat B.1.351 tersebar luas, ada sembilan kasus Covid-19 yang semuanya terjadi di antara peserta yang mendapat plasebo. Dari sembilan kasus tersebut, enam diantaranya terinfeksi varian Afrika Selatan.

Beberapa penelitian sebelumnya menunjukkan bahwa Pfizer / BioNTech kurang ampuh terhadap varian B.1.351 dibandingkan dengan varian lain virus corona.

Hampir 53% dari 9,3 juta populasi Israel telah menerima kedua dosis Pfizer. Israel sebagian besar telah membuka kembali ekonominya dalam beberapa minggu terakhir. Sementara pandemi terlihat menurun, dengan tingkat infeksi, penyakit parah, dan rawat inap menurun drastis. (TIA)

CDC: Children's team sports likely cause for spread
(CNN)The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the US Food and Drug Administration are recommending that the United States pause the use of Johnson & Johnson's Covid-19 vaccine over six reported US cases of a "rare and severe" type of blood clot.

The six reported cases were among more than 6.8 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine administered in the United States. All six cases occurred among women ages of 18 and 48, and symptoms occurred 6 to 13 days after vaccination, according to a joint statement on Tuesday from Dr. Anne Schuchat, principal deputy director of the CDC and Dr. Peter Marks, director of the FDA's Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research.

"CDC will convene a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) on Wednesday to further review these cases and assess their potential significance," the statement said. "FDA will review that analysis as it also investigates these cases. Until that process is complete, we are recommending a pause in the use of this vaccine out of an abundance of caution. This is important, in part, to ensure that the health care provider community is aware of the potential for these adverse events and can plan for proper recognition and management due to the unique treatment required with this type of blood clot."
