but most of it, so far yang best pernah saya baca, chin peng and detention without trial tulisan dari seorang bekas tahanan ISA. sometime we need to get real.

detention without trial tu tulisan presiden Parti Rakyat Malaysia, Syed Husin Ali. He is actually my father's second cousin. Dalam buku tu, dia ada tulis dia kena detention lama.. sampai anak-anak dia yg kecil tak ingat siapa dia (as their father).

Saya ingat masa buku tu release, dia ada bagi one copy each untuk saudara saudara dia. He is really a pleasant man, soft spoken and very humble. Mmg tak expect pun dia kena tahan dgn ISA

Dear limaunipis...

That is an interesting news about you being related to syed Husin Ali...the ex PRM pres.
He's no doubt one of the best Malaysians around. Kassim Ahmad was once his close ally and was also detained for a very long time...if I'm not mistaken...

I'm always fascinated by these great people who are willing to sacrifice everything for their idealism...my only problem is I wonder if it's all worth it?? kassim ahmad as we know now is an umno supporter, the very party responsible for him suffering in detention....Syed Husin ...what is his struggle? ......

As for me, call me a coward but I will never sacrifice myself for any idealism...well may be only for Islam ...even then....I may try to find ways to do it the least hard way....may be because I'm such a weak and cowardly man, I tend to admire very2 strong men...Khomeini, Salahuddin al Ayubi (Saladin), Osama ben Laden.... by the way...one of the memorable bioghraphies that I've read  was on Salahuddin...was written by one of his own courtiers hundreds of years ago....very fascinating....

last night read a very fascinating short story in old Harper's magazine (bukan harper's bazar !) - "Natasha" by David Bezmozgis ....i've never heard of this author before but a quick check in amazon.com have this to say about him....

David Bezmozgis became an overnight star when he published stories in the holy trinity of American magazines for fiction lovers: The New Yorker, Harper's, and Zoetrope. With the publication of his first book, Natasha, he has been compared to Chekhov and Philip Roth, and the comparison is more than just promotional copy.

the story was about the 14 yr old natasha a russian emigre with her mother to usa... the thing that struck me about this story is that it kinda make me understand  a bit how all those child porn pictures from eastern europe are  everywhere iin the internet...

....and now i'm reading a very good travel book by Evelyn Waugh..."Remote People" about the coronation of haile salasie in 1930 in Ethiophia... and about the his travel aroud the region at that time...

and also finsihing an article by the gay writer Edmund White...titled 'Shrink' in the literary quaterly GRANTA vol 71... this one is about his teenage years undergoing psychoanalysis trying to cure him from homosexuality...(which didn't work)......

Dead and decomposing? Smelly? A skeleton of the man he was? A ghost?
