The thing is - you love to pick one particular Quranic verse & mold it to suit your interest. Then start to manipulate the issue as if the true teachings of Islam promotes wife/wives beating where in fact beating could be done under certain circumstances. No one beats their wife/wives for no good reason. There're many Quranic verses that protect the women's rights just that you love to manipulate the issues. The verses are found all over the Quran & it's not a matter of having problems to extract the verses. It's a matter to manipulate that very particular verse to smear the true teachings of Islam.

I thought Muslim women have equal rights with Muslim men.

Check this out okay.

"They (women) have right like those (of men) against them; though men are a degree above them. Allah is Almighty, All-Knowing." [Qur'an 2:228]

In fact, there was a case where a young lady was forced to marry a man of her parents' choice. However she disagreed & came to the prophet for advice. So the prophet called her parents & discussed. Finally the marriage was cancelled.

My response:-

Well, at least it's clearly stated in the Holy Quran that women have equal rights with men. At least, Muslim women have freedom of speech, their rights are clearly mentioned in the Holy Quran, they can vote unlike the Christian women who had to fight for Women's Liberation. Your women have no say & have no right to vote. They shd remain silent in the church & let the men do the talking. Your women will be punished by cutting their hair if they argue with their husbands - something like that.

In fact Debmey, this similar thread has been discussed before & I thought you lost the debate.
