KUALA LUMPUR: Siti Nurhaliza is the most googled Malaysian on the Internet.

The singer is the most popular name keyed in by Malaysians who log on to leading search engine Google. She抯 the only individual who抯 made it to Google抯 monthly Zeitgeist list which tracks the 15 top search terms for Malaysia. (It does the same for 30 other countries.) And she抯 been on that list for four months straight.

Google spokesperson Eileen Rodriguez said results were mined from searches made by Internet users on the company抯 Malaysia (www.google.- com.my) website. They don抰 take into account searches from other Google.com domains.

"It is a general indication of some of the popular terms people are searching," said Rodriguez in an email reply to the New Straits Times.

The Malaysia Google site has been up since August 2003 and the company has been publishing the Malaysia Zeitgeist list since February.

"The list isn抰 authoritative. But it paints a rough picture of what sort of information Malaysians look for as well as their interest in current issues," said Ibrahim Suffian from Merdeka Centre, which conducts opinion polls.

In Siti抯 case, her "popularity" peaked shortly before April, when the excitement over her "friendship" with businessman Datuk Khalid Mohamad Jiwa was at its height. It has been falling since then.
