compare dgn badminton memang lah mahal..... kalau buat comparison omputih kata kena compare apple to apple.....

mula2 memang mahal... lepas tu selagi arrow tu tak patah/bengkok atau hilang... tak payah kuar belanja besar....

saya bukan di KL... tapi di muka bumi ni lah.... kalau kat KL.... bole gak pegi Maju Junction.... dulu saya selalu shoot di Star Archery.... kat Pro lane tu.... seronok gak... sebab ramai org tengok...

saya buat range sendiri.... tapi keselamatan kena jaga....

Sekurang-kurangnya sebutir pingat mesti diraih barisan pemanah negara.

Archery: Recurve team achieve sport抯 best ever finish
By : DEVINDER SINGH

MALAYSIA achieved its best ever finish in the Archery World Cup when the men抯 national recurve team took fourth place in the third leg of the series in Antalya, Turkey on Saturday.

After finishing the qualifying round 15th with 3,853 points, the team of Cheng Chu Sian, Muhd Marbawi Sulaiman and Wan Khalmizam Wan Abdul Aziz faced an uphill task against second seeds Japan in the first knock-out round.

But the Malaysian trio pulled off a narrow 216-215 win, a repeat of their win over the Japanese in the Asian Grand Prix final in Bangkok in February, before gaining a measure of revenge against India, who denied Malaysia the bronze in a shoot-off at the Doha Asian Games, in a tie-break (26-24) after their quarter-final encounter ended 214-214.

Malaysia, ranked 10th in the world, were denied a historic place in the final when they were edged by the slimmest of margins by World No 5 Russia, going down 217-216.

It was another heart-breaking result in the third-fourth place playoff when again Malaysia lost by a point, this time 212-211 to Ukraine, who upset world champions South Korea in the last eight. Russia went on to win gold by beating the Netherlands 216-209 in the final.
Malaysia抯 fourth placing was worth 20 points which saw them rise to 26th place in the World Cup nations standings on 22 points.

National coach Lee Jae-hyung was delighted with the men抯 performance as they prepare for an assault on the World Championships in Leipzig, Germany next month, which also act as the 2008 Beijing Olympics qualifier.

"The archers are now showing more consistency and they are always improving. They missed a great chance to reach the final, losing by just a point, but to finish fourth is very good as it is Malaysia抯 best performance in the World Cup series," he said.

Archery team fails but two spots secured for Beijing Olympics
By LIM TEIK HUAT

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian archery men抯 recurve team failed in their bid to reach the quarter-finals of the World Championships after going down 206-212 to Taiwan on Friday.

But there was still cause for joy, as recurve archer Mohd Marbawi Sulaiman managed to secure a spot in the Beijing Olympics next year.

Marbawi will join fellow teammate Cheng Chu Sian in securing two places for Malaysia in the men's individual competition.

The International Archery Federation (FITA) announced the quota spots on Friday. For the first time, Malaysia would have two men archers qualifying for the Olympics on merit.

Despite finishing below the top 16, Marbawi was eligible for the quota spot because the positions of the archers are not taken into account if their respective countries had qualified from the team competition in the first place.

Marbawi finished 27th while Su Siang was ranked eighth in the overall individual rankings.

The eight countries that have grabbed Olympic quota spots for the team competition were South Korea, Taiwan, Ukraine, Canada, Italy, United States, Great Britain and Poland.

For Marbawi, making the grade for Beijing on merit will be the biggest highlight of his career after winning two gold medals in the Vietnam SEA Games in 2003.

Marbawi was Malaysia's best performer in the individual qualification round, finishing 19th with 1,326 points.

The chubby looking archer also shot a new national record over the 90m distance when he shot 321 points to better the previous national mark of 319 set by Su Sian in the Asian Grand Prix circuit held in Kuala Lumpur last year.

The Malaysian side comprising Su Sian, Marbawi and Wan Abdul Aziz Khalmizam would have earned a quota spot in the team event if they had beaten the Doha Asian Games silver medallists Taiwan in the first round tie.

However, the Taiwanese side handled the nerves better in the decisive moments to pull through.

Female archer Mon Redee Sut Txi was the first Malaysian to qualify for the Olympics in Athens in 2004.

The world meet was the first qualifying event for the Olympics and 40 places were at stake in the respective men's and women's competition. Altogether, 64 men and 64 women would qualify for the Olympics. As the hosts, China, are allowed to field the maximum of three men and three women archers.

Archery: Marbawi going to Beijing
By : Ajitpal Singh

NATIONAL recurve archer, Muhd Marbawi Sulaiman will be joining teammate Cheng Chu Sian at next year抯 Beijing Olympics.

The International Archery Federation (FITA), which released the list of Olympic qualifiers on Friday, listed Marbawi as one of the 40 qualifiers for the Beijing Olympics.

Marbawi, the 2003 Vietnam Sea Games double gold medallist, can count himself lucky as he neither made the top 16 cut in the individual event nor helped Malaysia qualify in the team event at the ongoing World Outdoor Archery Championships in Leipzig, Germany.

The 24-year-old only made the Olympics as several spots for archers, who made the top 16 in the individual event but helped their teams qualify for the team quarter-finals, became available and were awarded to those in the lower bracket.

The final individual rankings take into account the performances in the team event.

Marbawi lost to teammate Chu Sian in the third round of the individual event on Thursday.

Chu Sian, 21, went on to reach the quarter-finals.

Malaysia抯 hopes of getting a full quota of three archers to Beijing were dashed as the team comprising Chu Sian, Marbawi and Wan Mohd Khalmizan Wan Abdul Aziz lost 212-206 to eventual semi-finalists Taiwan in the first round of the team event.

If Malaysia had beaten Taiwan, Wan Mohd Khalmizan would have qualified for the Olympics.

Archery: A team for Beijing
By AFTAR SINGH

KUALA LUMPUR: Wan Mohd Khalmizam Wan Abdul Aziz is the third Malaysian archer to make the grade for the 2008 Olympics and he thus completes the full quota for the men's recurve team in the Beijing Games.

He made it with a third-place finish in a qualifying event held at the Asian championships, which ended in Xian yesterday. The event offered three places for those who have yet to make the grade.

Cheng Chu Sian and Mohd Marbawi Suliaman had qualified from the World Championships in Germany in July.

Mohd Khalmizam together with Chu Sian and Marbawi scored an upset over world champions South Korea in the team event of the championship proper, winning 224-222 to qualify for the final. But they were beaten 219-222 by India in the match for the gold medal.

En route to the final, Malaysia defeated Japan (215-211) and Hong Kong (221-209).

On target: Wan Khalmizam Wan Abdul Aziz (left), Mohd Marbawi Sulaiman and Cheng Chu Sian will compete in the recurve team event at the Beijing Olympics next year.

The men's compound team of Soo Teck Kim, Lau Siew Hong and Ting Leong Fong won a bronze, beating Indonesia 220-218 in the playoff.

They had lost 221-225 to Taiwan in the semi-finals.

However, the compound event is not in the Olympic programme.

It was the first time Malaysia won medals in the Asian championships.

The achievements of the men's recurve team have certainly proved that they have what it takes to challenge the world's best.

In the recent Olympic Test event in Beijing, the same team beat fancied United States, China and Russia en route to winning the silver behind South Korea.

In the individual event, Chu Sian settled for the silver behind South Korea's former national champion Kim Ha-neul, who now competes for Australia.

Besides the three archers, three other Malaysian athletes have qualified for the Olympics.

They are diver Bryan Nickson, swimmer Daniel Bego and pole vaulter Roslinda Samsu.

Archery: Plan to send team for stints in South Korea
By LIM TEIK HUAT

PETALING JAYA: Archery coach Lee Jae-hyung will propose to the National Sports Council (NSC) to sent the men's recurve team for regular training stints in South Korea in their preparation for the Olympics next year.

"If they stay here, they do not have quality sparring partners" - Coach LEE JAE-HYUNG

On Thursday, Wan Mohd Khalmizam Wan Abdul Aziz became the third Malaysian archer to qualify for the Beijing Games. His qualification from the Asian Championships in Xian also meant that Malaysia will get to compete in the team event at the Olympics.

KUALA LUMPUR: The national archers who bagged medals for the first time in the Asian Championships in Xian last week became the latest recipients of rewards under the national incentive scheme.

The silver medal-winning men抯 recurve team of Cheng Chu Sian, Muhd Marbawi Sulaiman and Wan Mohd Khalmizam Abdul Aziz were given RM20,000.

Khalmizam received an additional RM5,000 for making it to the Beijing Olympics in a qualifying event held at the championships. He will also receive an additional RM1,000 monthly from October under the special Olympics incentive scheme.

The men's compound trio of Soo Teck Kim, Lau Siew Hong and Ting Leong Fong, who bagged bronze in the Asian meet, received RM10,000.

Other athletes present to receive their cheques were from bowling, cycling, hockey, karate and badminton.
