Hammond happy to have Seol 06/10/06
Reading director of football Nick Hammond believes Seol Ki-Hyeon is proving to be one of the summer's shrewdest signings.
The Royals recruited Seol in the hope he would provide the cutting edge needed to compete in the Barclays Premiership - and the South Korean winger has not disappointed. He has been a key factor in Reading's impressive start to life in the top flight, scoring twice - including last Sunday's winner at West Ham.
Hammond told the club's official website, www.readingfc.com: "Seol was the first player to come in and he was very much one of our primary targets in the summer. When you look at the market this summer and his initial fee of £1million, I'm delighted with the deal."
He added: "He's played in two World Cups and has the right professionalism and personality.
"We felt he had much more to offer than he'd already shown in England and he was potentially more suited to Premiership than Championship football.
"He was a player who we thought could unlock the door, which is something you need in the top division." |

Younghusband scores four for his country

Reserve team striker Phillip Younghusband, 19, scored four goals for Phillipines earlier today, Tuesday, as they beat Timor-Leste 7-0 in their Asean Football Federation Championships qualifying group.
He was called up to the squad along with brother James last week, and overcame a knee injury in time to go. Neither had been capped before. James was released from Chelsea at the end of last season and has yet to find another club.

Celtic's Nakamura best free-kick expert in football world says Strachan
GLASGOW (AFP) - Shunsuke Nakamura can count himself among the best free-kick experts in world football, according to Celtic manager Gordon Strachan.

The Japanese international scored a stunning set-piece from 35-yards to give the Scottish champions a sensational and historic 1-0 win at home to English giants Manchester United in the Champions League on Tuesday.
It meant Celtic, the first British club to win the old European Cup, in 1967, qualified from the group stages of Europe's premier club competition for the first time in their history.
Strachan, who signed Nakamura from Italian side Reggina in 2005, admits the diminutive Japanese playmaker is even better than he first thought.
The Celtic manager dared to go one further, and believes he is as good as anyone on the planet from dead ball situations.
"We struggled against Manchester United in the first half but when you have someone like 'Naka' who is as good as anyone in the world at free-kicks then you always have a chance," said Strachan.
"You need players who can take great set-pieces at crucial times to win big matches. Look at David Beckham's two corners which led to the goals for Manchester United to win the Champions League in 1999.
"You have to have that nerve. People think it's easy but it's not.
"Naka is definitely better than I thought he was. I knew he was a good player but I think he is fantastic now. When you look at his goals and his assists he is tremendous and so important for us."
The player himself believed it was perhaps the best goal he has ever scored.
Nakamura said: "To score a goal against a top goalkeeper like Edwin Van Der Sar is very special for me.
"I scored with a free-kick against him in the 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford but this one was even better because it meant Celtic are in the last 16 of the competition for the first time.
"I think it might be my best and most important in my career."
He added: "I can't wait now to play next year in the last 16 of the Champions League and I am very happy just now."
Nakamura's free-kick in the 82st minute was worthy of winning any game and was a fitting way for Celtic to finally make their entry into the last 16 of the competition.
Standing 35-yards out, with a defensive wall in front of him and one of the best goalkeepers in the world in van der Sar it looked like an almost impossible task for the little midfielder.
However, as soon as Nakamura's left-foot connected with the ball it was destined for only one place.
Despite van der Sar's despairing dive it dipped just under the crossbar and into the top corner of the net.
With a minute remaining it appeared United had been literally handed the point they needed to book their own place in the last 16.
Spanish referee Manuel Enrique Mejuto Gonzalez decided Cristiano Ronaldo's free-kick had been stopped by the hand of Shaun Maloney and awarded a penalty.
United's French striker Louis Saha stepped up and hit a powerful right-foot effort towards the left-hand corner only for Celtic's Polish goalkeeper Artur Boruc to throw himself to his right and palm the ball away.
