You have completely missed the point I was trying to make. I am not saying that the US policy on Foreign Military Sales (FMS) is right. All I am saying is that you have to see it from their point of view. US weapons are developed by US weapons designers. They are produced as a result of US R & D. US R & D is funded by the US tax-payer. In other words they consider it to be the intellectual property of their country. If Malaysia does not agree with this, then maybe they should consider developing their own technology. But from the point of view of the US, why should they sell their precious defence tech which they have spent billions developing to countries which they consider to be politically unreliable? What contribution has Malaysia made to US defence R & D? If Malaysia's scientists and money were involved in developing US weapons, then perhaps Malaysia would have a right to complain. But since Malaysia's contribution is zero, it is understandable that the US would not be sympathetic to us. Why should the US change their whole foreign policy just to enable Malaysians to sleep better at night?

That is an admirable sentiment. But do you really believe this is Malaysia's policy when it comes to defence procurements? Why were Israeli avionics removed from our SU-30MKM's? Surely, this is not a decision based on military requirements but a POLITICAL decision. Would Malaysia consider buying Israeli weapons if they were the best ones available? If defence is our main priority, then why complicate our logistics and training by purchasing our weapons from several different countries? Surely, this is the biggest problem that we have, the fact that political factors are influencing our procurements policy, and they not been decided purely on military factors. If we were really independent, then surely we can buy from any country in the world with impunity, INCLUDING Israel.

tak jugak 100% US r&d. Kalau hang pi tengok saintis2 depa yg develop bender2 nih, ada jugak yg merupakan asalnya rakyat luar US termasuk ler Malaysia, cuma depa lebih pandai menabur duit dan offer yg lebih baik kepada cendikiawan2 nih utk menolong depa menghancurkan dunia yg tak sebulu ngan depa. Kita pulak terlampau berkira bab2 bayaran, pampasan dan kebebasan berkarya kpd saintis2 nih utk menghasilkan sesuatu yg baik utk negara, atas alasan, oohhh, kita tak perlukan itu ini, oohh...kita tak boleh buat macam tuh, nanti tut...tut... marah atau melompat..., kita kena jaga hati jiran... so apa yg kita buat semua base on apa orang kata, apa orang pikir...maka jadi lah kita orang2 yg riak pasai nak buat sesuatu bukan kerana ikhlas nak buat, tapi kerana orang... akhirnya diri sendiri jugak yg rugi.... end of analysis.

- Attack Aircraft: A ground-attack aircraft is an aircraft that is designed to operate in direct support of ground forces such as infantry, tanks and other fighting vehicles. Their use is therefore tactical rather than strategic, operating at the front of the battle rather than against targets deeper in the enemy's rear. E.g. US A-10, Russia Su-25/39.

- MRCA: is an aircraft that can be used as both a fighter aircraft and a ground attack aircraft. E.g. Euro Panavia Tornado, Eurofighter Typhoon; France Dassault Mirage 2000, Dassault Rafale; India HAL Tejas; China J-10; Pakistan/China FC-1; Russia SU-30/35; Sweden JAS-39; USA F-4 Phantom, F-15 Strike Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F/A-18 Hornet, F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lightning II

- Trainer aircraft: A trainer is a training aircraft used to develop piloting, navigational or weapon-aiming skills in flight crew.

- Ground attack aircraft or "close air support" aircraft are designed to loiter over a battlefield and attack tactical targets, such as tanks, troop concentrations, etc. Examples: Junkers Ju 87 Stuka, Ilyushin Il-2 Shturmovik, A-10 Thunderbolt II, Sukhoi Su-25 'Frogfoot'.

- Fighter-bombers (also called tactical fighters, strike fighters, and attack fighters) are multi-role combat aircraft which can (at least theoretically) be equipped for either air-to-air combat or air-to-ground combat. Many fighter bombers were also designed to engage in aerial combat immediately after attacking ground targets. Modern multi-role combat aircraft are designed to fulfill multiple roles due to budget restrictions as often as they are for versatility. Examples: Chengdu J-10, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F/A-18 Hornet, Sukhoi Su-32 'Fullback', Dassault-Breguet Mirage 2000 and the Panavia Tornado.
