Thousands thrilled at tattoo

THOUSANDS of people may have had difficulty finding parking to watch the Kuala Lumpur International Tattoo 2007 but the astonishment of a spectacular military and culture performance was definitely painted on their faces as they exited Stadium Merdeka on Saturday.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin graced the event and launched it by placing his hands on a crystal ball at 8.30pm, which was immediately followed by a stunning fireworks display as the One Golden Celebration song echoed across the stadium.

This was followed by a commando-style entry into the stadium by army personnel rappelling from ropes with a display of pyrotechnics. The combination of the War Dance and Unarmed Combat were performed by the 10 Brigade Para, Malaysian Army.

An acrobatic motorcycle stunt by the Wira Merah from the military police followed shortly afterwards. Wira Merah managed to break its record in the Malaysia Book of Records with 19 personnel on a single motorcycle from 18 personnel in 2004 at Kota Baru, Kelantan.

Tourism Malaysia and the Defence Ministry jointly organised the event in conjunction with the country抯 50th Merdeka celebrations. The three-day event ended on Sunday.

Also present during the event were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

War dance: A feisty performance by the New Zealand Defence Force Maori cultural group.
More than 680 participants from other countries - including Jordan, Brunei, France, India, United States, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Korea, Pakistan, United Kingdom and New Zealand - also participated in the event.

The foreign contingents put up a stunning brass and pipe performance as well as synchronized gymnastics and silent drill.

The Unites States arm forces won the crowd抯 heart when one of personnel sang all-time favourite song My Girl and two other numbers accompanied by its brass band.

Marching in: A pipe and drum performance from the United Kingdom.
The crowd cheered on as they watched the feisty performance by the New Zealand Defence Force Maori cultural group.

Overall, the event was about 80% military showcase and another 20% cultural performance.

Sombong Betul lah Askar yang jaga cenderamata (bender free) patutnya cenderamata bagi kat penonton tapi dah siap ada untuk general, staff sajer tapi yang best ada satu group dari kementerian pelancongan bagi cenderamata macam kipas, lencana..... terbeliak Askar yang sombong tuh....
