Dua pasukan Johor tukar nama

Oleh Rizar Mohd Noor
rizar@mediaprima.com.my

National body bar five clubs from competition without explanation

BY ERIC SAMUEL

PETALING JAYA : The FA of Malaysia (FAM) have barred five M-League clubs from fielding teams in the President’s Cup (Under-21) competition next season.

And the competition committee’s decision last month caught the five clubs by surprise.

The affected clubs are this year’s President’s Cup finalist NS Betaria, PKNS FC, Johor FC, T-Team and FA Cup finalist Sime Darby FC.

A spokesman for the five clubs said they were informed of the decision via a FAM circular last month.

“ No reason was given for barring the clubs’ participation in the President’s Cup. Only the State FAs, including Kuala Lumpur, Armed Forces, Police and guest teams Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) and the Bandar Penawar Sports School are eligible to play in the President’s Cup competition next year, ” he said.

“ The clubs are serious about promoting the game. There are several players who got their big breaks playing for these clubs and some have since made it to national team. The clubs in the top flight need a feeder team and a good number of players move up from the President’s Cup to the senior teams.

“ It doesn’t make sense barring the clubs from competing in the President’s Cup. We hope FAM will reconsider the decision. Most of the clubs have appealed to FAM but have not received any reply. ”

A senior team coach said that they even had to terminate the contracts of their coaching staff following the FAM’s decision last month.

“ We want to see a gradual continuity of the players. We are serious about developing the game, too. But how are we to play our roles positively if there are such obstacles ? ” asked the coach.

He also chided FAM for scrapping the ‘ Piala Belia ’ Under-19 League a few years ago.

“ Some of the clubs are well-funded and have plans to set up their own academy and youth development programmes. But what is the point when the FAM host the Youth Cup (Under-19) on a carnival basis. It defeats the purprose as the boys need competitive matches in their respective age groups,” said the coach.

“ There needs to be an avenue for competition, too. The Under-19 and Under-21 players will eventually help the national team one day. ”

FAM competitions committee chairman Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin was not available for comment.

Tigers backlash

Azraai will be happy with draw in Johor

PERAK coach Mohd Azraai Khor expects a backlash against Johor Darul Takzim in Johor Baru today.
Azraai said that it was going to be a very tough away match for Perak.

“ They just lost to Pahang and that would fire up the Johor players to go all out against us, ” he said.

“ We are up against a wounded tiger, so we will have to be extra careful. ”

He added a draw would be a really good result for Perak but a win was not improbable.

“ If my boys can manage three points, it will be a bonus for us, ” Azraai said.

“ In football anything can happen. No one expected Pahang to get all three points after being down by two goals.”

At the same time, Azraai said that he was happy with team’s performance against T-Team although Perak won courtesy of an own goal.

“ It’s a new team with new players and combination. They have clicked together very fast, ” he said.

New signing S. Chanturu is yet to join training because of a right knee injury. Perak captain Shahrulnizam Mustapa is also out with a calf injury but is expected to be back in the next few weeks.

“ When both these players come back we will have a combination of new and old players which will make us stronger,” he said.

Meanwhile, former giants Selangor are expecting to win against Lions XII in Jalan Besar tomorrow.

Selangor coach Irfan Bakti said he was looking forward to the match and confident his team could come back from Jalan Besar with three points.

“ Our first win against Negri Sembilan was the morale-boosting,” he said.

“ I saw the Lions play against Forces on Wednesday and they are a much disciplined side with good attacking play. We must be careful of the mastermind and captain Shahril Ishak who can make a goal out of nothing, ” said Irfan.

However, Irfan said Selangor were much stronger this season with players such as S. Kunalan and Amri Yahya.

“ We did not win any trophy last season and that was very disappointing for a club like Selangor. This season we must win at least one trophy, ” he said.

Selangor last won trophies in 2010 which was the Super League and the Charity Shield.

Slaying the giants

But foreign signings, Klechjaroski and Borji, were disappointing, says Dollah

PAHANG coach Dollah Salleh praised his local players for their excellent performance after ‘The Elephants’ came back to snatch three points against Johor Darul Takzim on Tuesday night.

Dollah said his boys showed nerves of steel as Pahang came back from two goals down to win their opening match 3-2 at the Darulmakmur Stadium.

“ I’m happy with the way my players came back in the second half. I made a good decision to substitute both my foreign players — Nikolche Klechkaroski and Mohamed Borji — who did not perform well in the first half, ” he said.

“ I’m not happy with my foreign players because they did not have the finishing touch. They were unable to even push the Johor defence. ”

Dollah admitted his team made a lot of mistakes in the first half which allowed Johor hitman Daniel Guiza to capitalise on them.

He added in the second half his players took the game to Johor and consistently pressured them along the flanks. R. Gopinanth and R. Surendren terrorised the Johor defence when they came on for the foreigners.

“ I’m very happy with Gopinath’s performance but I’m confident he can do better in our second match, ” said Dollah.

Pahang’s next match is against Felda United tomorrow and Dollah expects his charges to extend their win against the Kuala Lumpur side.

“ We must not be complacent and we will have to give our best against Felda. We must show that Tuesday’s win was not a fluke, ” said Dollah.

Johor Darul Takzim coach Fandi Ahmad declined to comment on his team’s defeat because he didn’t want to put pressure on his boys.

Johor had a walk in the park in the first half when Guiza made pinpoint passes to Safiq Rahim and Norshahrul Idlan Talaha to score in the 11th and 26th minutes.

However, in the second have Johor were stunned by goals from Fauzi Roslan (50th, 72nd) and Surendren (82nd).

Mat Yo, two others ' freed '

11 January 2013

DECISION : PSC rules in favour of players

MALAYSIAN footballers will have greater freedom of movement following three landmark rulings by the FA of Malaysia's (FAM) player status committee which significantly curtailed the power of state FAs

Players from development team Young Tigers need not have to move back to their original teams when released by FAM while teams can no longer demand a transfer fee once a player has bought out his contract.

This came about after the committee ruled on the status of Young Tigers duo Affize Faisal Mamat and Akram Mahinan and the protracted transfer of Norshahrul Idlan Talaha, whose nickname is Mat Yo, from Kelantan to Darul Takzim.

Defender Affize, 24, rejected a return to Terengganu and signed with Armed Forces while Akram, 20, could not reach agreement with Kedah and joined Darul Takzim.

Player status committee chairman Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said Affize and Akram were within their rights to reject offers from their original teams and go elsewhere.

" As Affize is over the age of 21, Terengganu have no claim on him if the player could not agree terms with them," said Takiyuddin after chairing a meeting of the committee at Wisma FAM in Petaling Jaya yesterday.

" Terengganu only have first option to negotiate with the player, who is not obligated to sign with them. As the player then decided he did not want to play for Terengganu, he was free to sign with other teams without having to pay compensation to Terengganu.

" In Akram's case, Kedah are entitled to development and training compensation as Akram is below the age of 21. But he too was not obligated to sign with Kedah after being released by Young Tigers if he could not reach agreement with them.

" Both players are now free to play for their respective teams in the next round of matches. "

Additionally, the committee ruled that Darul Takzim will have to pay Kedah RM15,000 in compensation for Akram while Forces agreed to the committee's suggestion of a RM5,000 ex-gratia payment to Terengganu for Affize.

In Norshahrul's case, the committee ruled that Kelantan cannot demand a transfer fee from Darul Takzim after the player paid RM299,000 to buy out the remaining 13 months of his own contract.

" A contract no longer exists once a player has bought out his contract so Kelantan cannot then demand a transfer fee, " said Takiyuddin. "They are only entitled to a transfer fee if the player still had a contract with them.

" But since Kelantan agreed from the outset in black and white for the player to buy out his own contract, which Norshahrul paid (in two tranches of RM250,000 and RM49,000) on Jan 4 and 5, we consider the matter closed."

While Kelantan tried to have their cake and eat it too with regards to Norshahrul, they also lost out on compensation for S. Chanturu's transfer to Perak after the committee found that a notice of extension given to the player three months before the expiry of his contract was deemed void for being incomplete.

" In that notice, there were no details of any offer in regards to salary, allowances and other benefits nor did they set a date for discussions. As such, the notice is incomplete and the player not bound to it, " said Takiyuddin.

Kelantan cannot demand a transfer fee for Norshahrul Idlan Talaha (left).
