LONDON: Sebuah kumpulan kecil pengganas yang diberkas memiliki pelan pembuatan bom dan baju vest didakwa merancang untuk melakukan serangan bunuh diri terhadap Ratu Elizabeth (gambar) dan anggota keluarga diraja.

Anggotanya, termasuk pengganas termuda Britain, ditahan dalam dalam perjalanan ke rumahnya selepas mengambil peperiksaan kimia GCSE, ditemui bersama maklumat Ratu dan Duke of Edinburgh bersama Putera Wales, Duke of York, Earl of Wessex dan puteri raja.

Juga dalam senarai ialah anak perempuan Micheal of Kent, Duke dan Duchess of Gloucester dan Duke dan Duchess of Kent.


Aabid Hussain Khan, dari Bradford, West Yorkshire, didakwa mengumpul gambar, peta dan perincian mengenai pembukaan kediaman rasmi hasil maklumat diperoleh dalam internet.

Ada juga perincian mengenai mercu tanda London termasuk Parlimen, Menara Jambatan dan lokasi bawah tanah serta bandar raya New York dan Washington, selain video buatan sendiri Memorial Washington dan Bank Dunia di Amerika Syarikat.

Sumber antikeganasan berkata: 揗ereka mempunyai perincian bahan letupan dan racun bersama maklumat mercu tanda London serta fail komputer kediaman anggota keluarga diraja.

Ketua Detektif Superintendan John Parkinson, Ketua Unit Anti-Pengganas di Leeds, berkata lelaki terbabit sememangnya 憁emberi ancaman sebenar

Grandfather di Prince Phillip was a serving navy officer but had to give it up bila Elizabeth became queen. Ada I baca, klu Prince Phillip had stayed on in the navy.....most likely he would have been one of the top brass ....an Admiral maybe. Anyway, British Royal family have long been associated with the army and ada yang mati in the line of duty e.g. Duke of Kent (the Queen's uncle & bapa Duke sekarang) & Prince William (klu tak silap nama dia who was the elder brother of the present Duke of Gloucester & the Queen's first cousin) . Dorang ni walaupun royalty tapi berani mati for their country......but unfortunately coz of security reasons the govt don't allow them to go to battle not coz takut dorang mati but coz the British govt takut dorang kena kidnap.

I tak tau ada M'sian royalty serving actively in the arm forces ke?

I don't think that will ever happen coz by tradition the King /Queen serves for life.The Queen has a great sense of duty to her country & abdicating will be considered as a derelication to her duty.Klu tak silap in British history only 2 times the King has abdicated......King James was force to abdiacate in the 17th century & of course King Edward 8 a.k.a. Duke of Windsor abdicated " for the woman I love". Duke of Windsor untul his death was never accepted back into the Family And lived in exiled  in France coz their felt what he did was shameful to the family.

Queen Elizabeth sees a sombre Christmas for many
LONDON (Reuters) - Worries about the global economy and violence across the world have turned the celebration of Christmas into a more sombre affair this year, Queen Elizabeth said on Thursday.

Britain, like many other developed nations, is facing the risk of a prolonged recession. Unemployment is rising fast, household high street firms are collapsing and several big banks are only able to stay in business with government help.

There has also been an increase in the number of British soldiers killed in Afghanistan in recent weeks, just as troops in Iraq prepare to come home next year.

"Christmas is a time for celebration, but this year it is a more sombre occasion for many," the Queen said.

"People are touched by events which have their roots far across the world. Whether it is the global economy or violence in a distant land, the effects can be keenly felt at home."

But, in her annual Christmas broadcast which dates back to 1957 and is watched by millions across Britain and the Commonwealth, the 82-year-old said those with courage would work hard to survive and improve their lot.

"When life seems hard the courageous do not lie down and accept defeat; instead they are all the more determined to struggle for a better future," she said, standing by a piano adorned with pictures of her family.

This year has been eventful for the royal family, with Prince Harry -- third in line to the throne -- fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan for 10 weeks, an inquest into the death of Princess Diana and Prince Charles' 60th birthday.

The Queen paid tribute to Britain's armed forces but also singled out for praise her eldest son and heir, Charles, accompanied by previously unseen footage of the prince playing with his mother as a small child.

"We feel great pride in seeing our family make their own unique contributions to society," she said. "Through his charities, the Prince of Wales has worked to support young people and other causes for the benefit of the wider community."

LONDON (AFP) - - Always concerned about staying in touch with her subjects, Queen Elizabeth II has invited the royal family to follow her example and tighten the purse strings during the financial downturn.


The 82-year-old monarch has warned her grandsons Princes William, 26, and Harry, 24 -- third and fourth in line to the throne -- that all ostentatious signs of living it up would be inappropriate, according to newspapers.

British subjects are apparently in no mood to see the young royals partying in exclusive London nightclubs while the kingdom sinks into recession, the cost of living rockets and jobs are lost.

"Whatever is the mood of the nation, she (Queen Elizabeth) tries to go along with that mood," Nicholas Davies, an author of several books on the monarchy, told AFP.

The sovereign has a personal fortune of 320 million pounds (475 million dollars, 355 million euros), according to The Sunday Times newspaper's 2008 Rich List, but is not a spendthrift.

"She's not a flamboyant character and never has been," Davies said.

"She is not someone who has gone and spoiled her children, because she doesn't believe in spoiling them. She would expect them all (the other royals) to follow her example this Christmas.

"Children or grand-children, they will all behave in the same way. It is unlikely that this coming season we will see William and Harry going out to nightclubs, getting blind drunk and fooling around with attractive girls."

Adapting to the credit crunch should not be difficult for Queen Elizabeth, who has long since garnered a reputation for looking after the pennies.

For example, she insists that the Buckingham Palace lights are turned off when rooms are vacated and left-overs from banquets are re-used.

Annual head of state expenditure has dropped from 87.3 million pounds in 1991-1992 to 40 million pounds in 2007-2008.

In mid-October this year, during her state visit to Slovakia and Slovenia, she showed how she has cut back her wardrobe expenditure as a nod to the tougher times enveloping her subjects.

For a state banquet in the the Slovene capital Ljubljana, the queen asked her dressmakers to make her a formal gown out of some material she was given more than 20 years ago during a tour of the Middle East.

For her walkabout in the city centre, she wore a red outfit already seen at an official engagement in April. In Slovakia, she appeared in the same pink wool outfit that she wore on Easter Sunday.

Normally, etiquette demands that the queen never wears the same outfit twice.

However, the press believes Her Majesty is a convert to "credit crunch couture", or fashion for those whose clothing spending has been hit by the financial downturn.

Her husband Prince Philip remains a peppery naval officer without no zest for flashy spending. At the age of 87, he still wears trousers bought 30 years ago.

In line with her position as head of state, Queen Elizabeth avoids voicing her opinion on political matters.

But during a recent visit to the London School of Economics, she called the situation "awful" and asked: "Why did nobody notice it?", showing her feelings on the events gripping her subjects.

The queen has not been completely spared by the credit crunch. Her dressmaker Hardy Amies and favoured porcelain maker Royal Worcester and Spode have both filed for administration.

SYDNEY - Pemerintah Britain, Ratu Elizabeth II terselamat dalam satu bencana pada 1970 apabila sebatang kayu besar diletakkan di landasan kereta api, kata seorang bekas detektif semalam.

Bekas detektif itu, Cliff McHardy berkata, ketika kejadian, ratu itu bersama suaminya menaiki sebuah kereta api yang melalui pergunungan Blue pada 29 April 1970.

Bagaimanapun, kereta api yang dinaiki oleh mereka tidak bergerak pada kelajuan tinggi.

Menurut McHardy, kereta api itu sempat berhenti sebelum melanggar sebatang kayu besar.

Seorang jurucakap Polis New South Wales menyatakan, beberapa pegawai kini sedang meneliti dakwaan McHardy itu.

Namun, menurut McHardy, polis yang melakukan siasatan itu pada 1970 merahsiakan maklumat tersebut bagi mengelak Australia menerima malu. - AP
