IAN WRIGHT believes it's time for Deco to pull his gloves on tight and get stuck in to his first English winter. The Portugal playmaker made an impressive start to life in the Premier League, scoring in the 4-0 demolition of Portsmouth and grabbing the winner at Wigan in August.
He netted a spectacular goal in the 2-0 win over Bolton earlier this month but struggled to impose himself as the Blues were held by West Ham and Everton.
And Wrighty reckons Deco must discover some true grit and determination as the cold snap takes hold during the festive period.
The Arsenal legend said: "When the weather was nice of course he was playing well. You saw some unbelievable stuff and that was no surprise as he's a quality player. But it's freezing now and that's the time when Chelsea need to be digging in both at home and away. That's why you need the likes of John Terry, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole to let him know it's going to be hard. For someone like Deco, it is a culture shock. He's not a Michael Ballack-type player, he's what I'd call a comfort player. When you're winning, he'll come to the fore a lot more. When you need him to dig in, his passes go astray and people put him under more pressure. It'll be a bit harder for Deco to do his stuff at the moment but it's up to him to show he has got what it takes to make it in the Premier League."
Chelsea fans are beginning to point the finger at Deco as the club's title bid continues to stutter.
