Gasperini 'regret' at Inter sacking

Gian Piero Gasperini has expressed his regret at being sacked by Inter, but thanked the club for the opportunity to work with them.

The Coach failed to win any of the five fixtures he oversaw when at the club, with Massimo Moratti then relieving him of his duties on Wednesday morning. Talking to Sky Sport Italia, Gasperini gave his immediate reaction to the decision.

“It is too bad that this relationship is over.

“I'm very sorry, but the results determine everything. There was a very good relationship with both the team and the board, and that's why right now I feel regret, a regret I believe is shared by all.”

Meanwhile, Moratti thinks it is unlikely that Giuseppe Baresi and Daniele Bernazzani will remain in charge of Inter.

The coaching duo took charge of the Nerazzurri's training session this morning as Gian Piero Gasperini was relieved of his position as Coach.

However, when asked of the possibility of continuing under the duo, the President replied: “I don't think so, it is unlikely.”

It is believed the club are looking to act quickly to replace Gasperini, with the concern of a full fixture list to follow. Claudio Ranieri is strongly linked with the role.

Grp B: CSKA Moscow 2-3 Inter Milan

Claudio Ranieri continued his winning start to life as Inter Milan manager with victory in today's Champions League match against CSKA Moscow.

Ranieri started his tenure at the San Siro with a 3-1 Serie A defeat of Bologna and followed up with another victory over Leonid Slutsky's side in the Luzhniki Stadium.

Lucio gave Inter a sixth-minute lead and Giampaolo Pazzini doubled the lead midway through the first half, before Alan Dzagoev and Vagner Love levelled the scores.

However, substitute Mauro Zarate blasted in the winner 11 minutes from time to get Inter's Group B campaign up and running after the shock home defeat at the hands of Trabzonspor on matchday one.

CSKA Moscow vs Inter Player Ratings
CSKA Moscow put up a brave fight, but ultimately it was Inter Milan who claimed a 3-2 victory in their Champions League Group B encounter on Tuesday.
Here, ESPNSTAR.com takes a look at the players who made a difference for the respective sides.

CSKA Moscow

Vladimir Gabulov - 5.5
A poor game from the on-loan keeper, who admittedly had big gloves to fill standing in for the injured Igor Akinfeev. Was culpable for Inter's opener, when he flapped at a corner, leaving an unguarded goal for Lucio to fire into.

Kirill Nababkin - 7
Toiled manfully all night long, and even showed regular interest in venturing forward. Capable of whipping in a dangerous cross too.

Sergei Ignashevich - 6.5
The CSKA stopper's lack of pace was severely exposed by Giampaolo Pazzini in the first half, although he fared significantly better in the second 45, apart from Mauro Zarate's winner.

Vasili Berezutski - 6
Failed to offer his defensive counterparts any help whatsoever, and was regularly playing the Inter attackers onside.

Aleksei Berezutski - 6.5
Decent performance by Berezutski, although he was beaten on the night by Yuto Nagatomo.

Alan Dzagoev - 8.5
The young CSKA midfielder showed why he's currently rated as Russian football's hottest prospect. Started off on the left-wing but often drifted to the centre to get more of the ball, and displayed a full set of skills.
Capped off a brilliant performance by firing a venomous free-kick past Julio Cesar with the last kick of the first half.

Pavel Mamaev (off 68') - 5
Fairly nondescript performance by Mamaev, and it was no surprise he was hauled off just before the 70th-minute mark.

Evgeny Aldonin - 7
Did his job shielding his defence and was sharp in the tackle, but failed to offer CSKA significant drive going forward.

Sekou Oliseh - 8
Lively performance by the Liberian international, who exposed Christian Chivu on countless occasions. However, he would have been disappointed with the delivery of his final ball, which could have created a number of clear chances had it been better.

Seydou Doumbia - 7
A mixed performance from Doumbia, who showed enough to suggest he could have been the match-winner. Carved open the Inter defence on a number of occasions, but also dwelt on the ball far too often when his striker partner Vagner Love was in the clear.

Vagner Love - 8.5
Showed why he is regarded as one of the most dangerous strikers with an excellent performance on the night. Didn't seem to be fazed coming up against experienced campaigners like Lucio and Walter Samuel, and instead made full use of his pace and guile to keep the pair a constant headache.
Netted a brilliant goal for CSKA when he found space in the box, cut inside on his right foot, before unleashing a deadly shot into the bottom corner.

Subs
Zoran Tosic (on 68') - 7
The former Manchester United man actually provided a spark for CSKA when following his introduction. Would feel he should have started.

Inter Milan
Julio Cesar - 6.5
Didn't make any major mistakes, but also failed to instill confidence in his defence with a number of half-hearted attempts at claiming high balls.
Some would say he should have done better with Dzagoev's free-kick as it was fairly central, but in Julio Cesar's defence, the shot was hit pretty hard.

Yuto Nagatomo - 8
The Japanese international showed he could actually be the reason for Inter's poor start to the season, which he missed through injury.
Never stopped running and gave the CSKA left-back a torrid time, even bombing forward to provide a clever assist for Giampaolo Pazzini's opener, putting the ball through his opponent's legs before cutting back a pin-point cross.

Lucio - 6.5
Despite scoring Inter's opener, Lucio looked uneasy in defence, and was clearly glad to see the back of Vagner Love at the final whistle.

Walter Samuel - 5.5
The veteran Argentinean fared even worse than his defensive partner Lucio, and at times it seemed as though CSKA were playing with an extra man, considering the freedom Doumbia had.
Nerazzurri fans must be hoping Andrea Ranocchia returns soon.

Christian Chivu (off 90') - 7
Considering the problems he's had over recent seasons, especially when deployed at left-back, Chivu actually had a pretty decent game by his standards. Made no major mistakes, and actually showed good poise when bringing the ball forward.

Damien Alvarez (off 84') - 8
Already looking like an inspired summer signing, Alvarez showed why Arsenal were equally keen on sealing his services.
Pacy, tricky and full of confidence, the Argentinean was a handful for the CSKA defence all night.

Esteban Cambiasso - 7.5
Assured performance from the veteran midfielder, who never ever looks flustered when on the ball. Dictated the tempo for Inter, and made full use of his short, simple passes.

Joel Obi - 5.5
Made a catalogue of clumsy challenges, and at times looked lost playing against CSKA's nifty midfielders. Lucky to have stayed on the pitch for the whole game, considering he spent half the time clattering into the back of opposition players.

Giampaolo Pazzini (off 49') - 8.5
May only have played slightly over a half, but when presented with a chance, Pazzini almost always scores, and that was certainly the case in the first half when Nagatomo laid on a chance for him on a platter.
Apart from his goal, Pazzini also showed good link-up play with his midfielders, and was always eager to run in behind the lumbering CSKA defence.

Diego Milito - 6.5
Tried his best to stretch his opponents with off-the-ball running but was caught offside on many occasions. Should be worried about his first-team place, considering the bright starts Diego Forlan and Mauro Zarate have made to their Inter careers.

Subs
Mauro Zarate (on 49') - 7.5
You can never fault a substitute who gets thrown on and bags the winner - a sure sign of a job well done. But the skill involved in Zarate's goal showed why Inter were so keen to loan him from Lazio earlier this summer. Neatly controlling a long pass, the Argentinean then ventured into  the CSKA penalty box, before firing a low shot beyond the reach of Gabulov.
Jonathan (on 84') - N/A
Brought on to run the clock down, and didn't have much time to show what he is capable of.
Lorenzo Crisetig (on 90') - N/A
The highly-rated Inter youngster will be hoping his next Champions League involvement is slightly longer than his first on Tuesday night.
