Top 5 High Yielding Indica Strains

Viewed 57 times8-8-2020 05:13 PM

When you’re a marijuana grower, you know it all comes down to the highest yielding strains. And if you know anything about growing, you also know that yield has a lot to do with more than just caring for your plants really well —Choosing a marijuana grow tent is important, it also has a lot to do with the top marijuana strains you choose to start with from the beginning.

Indica strains are typically the favourites among seasoned cannabis users. When people want some "loud" or "bomb" or "fire", they're usually talking about a nice, strong indica.

What Is an Indica Strain?

The Cannabis Sativa L plant comes in three major strain forms, all of which offer different benefits depending on the type of strain. The three major types of cannabis plants are Indica, Sativa and Hybrids.

Unlike Sativas and Hybrids, Indicas are known for being short, bushy plants with wide leaves. They tend to grow faster and have a higher yield than Sativas. Indica strains are mostly chosen by growers who are restricted to producing plants indoors, since Indica plants will grow no taller than 6 feet and take as little as 9 weeks to flower. In contrast, the Sativa plant has been known to tower to an impressive 20 feet in height and can take a lot longer for the buds to mature.

Indicas also have a completely different effect on the body and mind compared to Sativas and Hybrids. While the Sativa strain is often compared to having a shot of espresso, Indica can be like having a sleeping pill. With its sedative properties and “couch-locking” effects, this is a popular form of strain amongst those who suffer from anxiety, sleeping problems, insomnia, chronic pain, anorexia, muscle spasms, anxiety and more.

Furthermore, Indica strains are a popular choice for many who seek to use cannabis for its healing properties as Indicas tend to have higher levels of CBD, rather than THC, which provides its patients with a mellow high.

Tip – if you are not looking to get high then it would be advised to steer clear of Indica or Sativa strains and instead consume CBD oil or capsules which have none of the THC that provides the feeling of being high.

Here are Top 5 High Yielding Indica Strains

Afghani

Afghani indica strains are broad leaf hash production plants from the mountains of Afghanistan. Brought over to the West during the hippie trail era, Afghani was cultivated, inbred and crossbred with other marijuana varieties, including sativas. The first well-known indica/sativa being Skunk, an (Afghani x Colombian Gold)/Acapulco Gold hybrid from the Bay Area, named for its strong stinky fragrance. Afghani genetics have since been used in countless breeding programs.

ICE

One of the most notable indica strains we carry is ICE. An acronym for Indica Crystal Extreme, it will seem as though your plants are covered in an icy frost once harvest rolls around. ICE matures its bountiful, sparkling buds in as little as 8 weeks of bloom, but many growers prefer to extend the phase to 10 weeks. ICE is a hybrid of Northern Lights, Afghan, and Skunk, a marriage that culminates in a spicy, earthy, and herbaceous aroma alongside a decadent high.

NORTHERN LIGHT

Northern Light is a favourite among connoisseurs and growers worldwide. Though the exact genetics of the original Northern Lights remains unknown, experts believe that the strain is a result of hybridising 11 varieties. Our take on Northern Light remains fiercely indica-dominant, with a couch-lock high and a smooth, distinct flavour.

Blueberry

Blueberry is a famous mostly indica hybrid bred by DJ Short in the 1970’s. It was created from an Oregon Purple Thai x Afghani hybrid named Flo, bred together with a Highland Thai “Juicy Fruit”. The resulting Afghani dominant expressions were refined to create the Original Blueberry, a name that stoners around the world recognize as the gold standard of fruity pot. Tested up to 24% THC.

SWEET ZZ

Sweet ZZ is a cross between Grape Ape and Grapefruit that really lives up to its name. It has an incredibly sweet aroma and flavour, with many users reporting a smoke laced with hints of candy. Although Sweet ZZ is indica-dominant, you will definitely feel some of the sativa effects of this strain. Typically, relaxation, creativity, and mild feelings of euphoria are reported.

Tips for Maximising your Yields
As you probably know, the yields of your cannabis plants can vary based on a variety of factors outside of their genetics. Soil, cannabis grow light, nutrients, space, and other environmental factors can all affect the growth of your plants and, ultimately, their ability to produce a sizeable yield.

To maximise your yields, we generally recommend growing indoors because it gives you far more control over a number of these variables. However, keep in mind that many strains thrive outdoors, especially when grown in big-enough pots. There is, after all, no lighting substitute for the sun’s rays.

Training is also really important to keep in mind. Many strains respond exceptionally well to high-stress and low-stress techniques, so be sure to experiment with things like topping, ScrOG, fimming, and more to really push your plants to the limit.

Final thoughts

Whether you are hoping to make money with some of the high yield strains or you just want to grow plenty of weed for you and your friends to enjoy, you’ve got to consider one of these strains that produce high yield.

Not only will you get more bang for your buck, but you’ll begin to truly enjoy the overall growing process, too. Happy growing!
