VPN NETWORKING

Hello semua,

Siapa yg tahu pasal  Virtual Private Network (VPN) networking ?, nak hubungkan 2 pc dari tempat yg berbeza, contohnya 1 pc kat Shah Alam dan 1 pc lagi kat Bangi.

since you didn't mention the operating system on both computers, i assumed you're using windows xp and the connection between the two computers is wide open (no firewalls, routers, etc. in between). if that's the case, try this (if you're using windows 2003, the method should be the same or similar):



setup windows xp as vpn host:

1. on your computer desktop, look for My Network Places icon
2. right click on My Network Places icon and select Properties
3. double click on New Connection Wizard and create a New Connections --> click Next
4. click/select Set up an Advanced Connection --> click Next
5. click/select Accept Incoming Connections --> click Next
6. under the Devices for Incoming Connections dialog box, do not select any device --> click Next
7. click/select Allow Virtual Private Connections --> click Next
8. under User Permissions dialog box, select or add all users for whom you want to enable access (note: the accounts have to exist on both computers that are involved in establishing the VPN connection)
9. under Networking Software dialog box; Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks, and Client for Microsoft Networks should be listed as networking components (should be selected by default - don't change). by default, under TCP/IP, Allow callers to access my local area network and Assign TCP/IP address automatically using DHCP are checked --> click Next
10. click Finish

now, the Incoming Connections icon should show under Incoming section under the Properties of My Network Places and is ready to use.



setup windows xp as vpn client:

1. on your computer desktop, look for My Network Places icon
2. right click on My Network Places icon and select Properties
3. double click on New Connection Wizard and create a New Connections --> click Next
4. click/select Connect to the network at my workplace --> click Next
5. click/select Virtual Private Network connection --> click Next
6. under Connection Name dialog box, type computer name that will be showed as connection name in VPN section --> click Next
7. under VPN Server Selection dialog box, type the VPN host IP address (IP address of the computer in #6 above) --> click Next
8. if you want to create a shortcut on your computer desktop, check Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop box --> click Finish

now, windows vpn click will open and you will see your vpn host under Virtual Private Netowrk section under the Properties of My Network Places

Thanks oobi for your explanation, both of pc are using Wins XP as OS, I will try to configure and testing whether it's working or not...
