Can anybody help me to define the meaning of ' not holding my breath' in this quote?

'hoping for the best, but not holding my breath'

Thank you.

cinta_ungu,

According to Oxford Idioms dictionary there are three meanings to the idiom 'hold your breath" :-

1. stop breathing for a while eg bcoz you are afraid or very anxious about something

2. be anxious while you are waiting for something that you are worried about

3. (informal) don't hold your breath used for telling somebody that it's not worth waiting for something

So 'Expecting the best = mengharapkan yang terbaik/yang baik2 akan berlaku

But I am not hodling my breath = tidaklah terlalu risau atau memikirkan sangat tentang perkara itu

Thank you very much teacher!~

Teacher,

I have another question. Instead of thank you, sometimes we only say thanks.
But which one is the right spelling - thank or thanks?
If both spelling are right, then what is the differences of them.

I saw some people just using thank but some added 's' to the word.

Please correct me if any of my sentences are wrong.
My english are not so good.

thank is used in form of verb...in action:

I thanked him for giving me a lift home
I thank you
Thank you!

however, thanks is generally used by itself.- Thanks! or Many Thanks!

Oklah jugak explaination you redsinner, tapi ni saya terangkan sikit2 ya. Based on definition in Oxford English dictionary

1. Thank - Verb atau kata kerja. So kalau perbuatan nak ucapakan terima kasih kita guna Verb

eg 1. I would like to thank everybody for their help. (Thank dalam bentuk Simple Form)
    2. He thanked me yesterday fro the gift I gave him earlier. (Thank dalam bentuk Past tense untuk perbuatan yg dah lepas)
    3. Right now, Ali is thanking his supporters for voting him.. (Thank dalam bentuk Present Participle (Verb + ing) untuk perbuatan yg dah lepas)

2. Thanks - Nouns yg memang dalam bentuk plural (ie mesti ada 's') Yang bermaksud "Words which show that you are grateful" / Ucapan terima kasih

eg "I would like to express my thanks to everybody who has helped me in the project"

Synonym/Perkataan seerti yg boleh digunakan juga - gratitude / appreciation

"I would like to express my gratitude to everybody who has helped me in the project"

3. Thank you - Juga noun yang bermaksud " an expression of thanks"

So dari segi makna Thanks and Thank You ni sama tetapi Thanks adalah lebih informal.

Anda juga boleh gunakan Thanks and Thank You untuk menerima/ menolak dengan sopan dan pelawaan orang lain.

e.g. Would you like some coffee?
Yes, thank you. / Thank you. That would be nice.
        Yes, Thanks a lot.

Would you like to stay for dinner?
      No, thank you.
No, thank you. I have to go back now.
      No, thanks.

Wymer,

Notion is slightly different as maknanya ialah "tanggapan' atau 'rasa-rasa'

Others,

I hope you all must have the habit of checking in the dictionary first such as the Oxford English-English-Malay as most of the questions asked was about Vocabulary rather than Grammar. You can teach yourself Vocab but Grammar might be a bit difficult.
