UTAR:Stop Abandoning the Seed of Hope
Date:13 March 2013 (Wednesday)
Time:12.00 noon - 5.00 pm
Venue:UTAR (PJ Campus) PC 203

UTAR’s Media and Creative Studies students have collaborated with Orphan CARE, Malaysia to organize a campaign entitled “Stop Abandoning the Seed of Hope”, which focuses on the issue of baby dumping.

They are working together towards running a number of road shows at selected secondary schools in Klang Valley. Apart from that, they will also be organizing a grand event at UTAR campus with an estimation of 200 audiences.

A speaker from OrphanCARE was invited to talk and discuss on the issue. The event was aimed to create awareness of the baby hatch project among public. Furthermore, local artists Vianz and Shan were invited to perform at the event. An exhibition, "Abandoned Baby", was also organised and will be opened to the public from 12pm onwards.

Attendees will receive a door gift as well as a chance to participate in the lucky draw. Among the prizes to be won were a pair of couple watches, various items of jewelry and hand phone accessories worth RM1000.

“The baby dumping issue is no longer new to our society. Although the presses have been highlighting this issue, the cases seem to continue to increase. One main factor that causes this scenario is young parents whom are facing financial difficulties and are unable to raise their own child. They choose this option when they are lost and out of any sort of help from the related organization.”  Teh Chee Haw, the chairman said.

He stated that, due to this reasons, parents choose to irresponsibly abandon the baby at harmful places such as rubbish dumps and abandoned houses. Consequently, innocent new born babies with low immunity lose their lives after being exposed to the danger. Therefore, to protect these newborns, Orphan CARE launched the first baby hatch in Malaysia in year 2010. It allows parents to place their baby which they are unable to look after without revealing the parents' identity.
